Hi Veeky Forums

Hi Veeky Forums
Need some guidance here.

I'm an ignorant man. I'm a product of the times, and most of what I know and believe in is based upon regurgitated info I'm bombarded with, but continue to consume due to it being "practical".
That being said, you can also see I'm not too clever or original either, being "edgy" and all that.

Any-who, I've always had an interest in philosophy, but I've never gotten into reading the work of a philosopher cover-to-cover.
Actually, I can't even tell you when was the last time I've read a real actual book.

I'm just your typical pseudo-intellectual. Just one of those assholes who's got nothing and everything to say at the same time.

Although, I've been struck with a nagging feeling to learn more, be more like these men I read click-bait headlines about.
I have no clue who Nietzsche really is, or what his work REALLY is about, but from all the buzzwords I read about him, he's my favorite!

On a serious note,
I just want to see the world like THESE men saw it.
Understand the world.

If I am to be powerless in this world, a peasant.
I'd at the very least be able to understand certain things.
Formulate my own, well constructed opinion of what it all comes down to.
Simply to ease my own mind.

>Short version: So, how do I get into philosophy, being an ignorant bastard, raised on video games and television?

I have no respect for most forms of schools of thought, and I've always longed to find "something" I could respect, something I could sink in hours of study without caring that it's "study"

you have to live it. stop the vidya and tv. read. think.

I mean, take Nietzsche for example, or another continental philosopher.
I'd love to read their works and actually understand what the men are saying.

What are some more entry-level books I could have a look at?
For dummies I suppose.

wtf does that dog have autism

you just gotta sit down and read.

start easy. read a paragraph, maybe highlight some sentances that stick out. stop and think.

do something else like wash the dishes or take out the garbage. think about what you read. write a sentance on the paragraph in a simple enough way that you can personally understand.

there is no easy way. just like going to the gym, you start small and it gets easier, then you increase the amount. you just gotta have an excuse to do it.

Start with the Greeks

That's actually good advice. I like that. Thanks for giving me this insight.

I'm good, I have an idea of what I want to get into first.

Start with Plato (complete works)
Treatise on Human Nature by Hume
An Essay Concerning Human Understanding by John Locke
Discourse on Method and the Meditations by Descartes
Principles of Human Knowledge by George Berkeley
Logic by Kant
Critique of Pure Reason by Kant

This list is a decent intro

Or you can use this list

Don't tell me you want to start with the Nietzsch
Don't tell me you want to start with him because of Jordan Peterson

...

He's real. That's why I want to start with him.

Even among people who dig philosophy, I see a lot of discussion, Veeky Forums included about things that seem just as pointless and harmful as religion.

imo, it's even worse than religion because it's harming a THINKING man's mind.

>religion
>pointless and harmful

this made me grimace

Genealogy of Morals
Beyond Good and Evil
Twilight of the Idols
Ecce Homo
Will to Power
the Anti-Christ

World as Will and Representation
Decline of the West/Man&Technics
Socratic Dialogues
Zhuangzi
A Thousand Plateaus
Dialectic of Enlightenment

have a gud time you stupid fucking nigger

also Being and Time when you’re ready, read Zhuanzi and DG first i think

Well, I have my thoughts on that. Perhaps there is a point to it.
As stated, I am ignorant.
I'll have to read and come to new conclusions when the time is right.

But not now, I just don't have any desire to get into religion.
I don't care about the ails of individuals.

Gay shit, gender shit, religion shit, race shit.
It's all a waste of time to me, I can't relate to these things, they either don't affect me or I don't believe in them.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be people talking about these things.
There should (I guess), but not me.

I just feel like there's gotta be something beyond all these (imo) menial topics people regurgitate over and over and over.

Fuckin, I just roll my eyes.
Religion is comparable to Star Wars.
There's nothing extraordinary about that brand.
Those first 3 films are good films, and that's where it ends.
But due to a number of things I do not comprehend, it became what it is today.

There was nothing in those 3 films to warrant THIS level of adoration.
It's ridiculous, and religion is much the same way to me.
Jesus or Paul or some other faggot spat out their OG trilogy (Christianity, whatever) back in the day and somehow it became what it is now.
It's all hype, no substance.

>Religion = Star Wars

If other people have the care and patience to devote their time to these things, well. It's their life their wasting.

.What are these exactly?
What can I look forward to in these works?

Enjoy not understanding what you are reading. Do as Nietzsche and start with the Greeks.

Fuck you.

you cant possibly be over 14

also start with nietzche if you want but you wont understand shit, philosophers like to jack off each other quoting earlier works, a good starting point to understand later works would be the fucking greeks

fuck you OP

You're dumb as fuck

wot

someone post the maze please?

also OP, stop being a faggot and read a goddamn book. You are a pseud either way, at least read some good books before you die
