Unhinged protagonists are the lamest fucking characters ever because real life mental illness is boring, annoying, and something you never want to experience even secondhand. I instantly roll my eyes when I see any media with a crazy main character. If you wrote them well, they would ruin the entire novel, and I don't think you want to do that.
