Most overrated novels

Joyce utterly fails in the art of the novel because of his complete disregard for story. While the writing has merit as an experiment, he seems to have been so submerged in his linguistic microcosm to produce pure masturbation instead of enjoyable fiction.

Ulysses
Gravity’s Rainbow
Infinite Jest

Hmm, this is what it seems, completely divergent opinions. I think I have three of his major works in my library, including Dubliners, so I guess I'll just give it a go when it feels right.
Thanks

This is actually a pretty good list. I especially agree with number 1, fuck that book

Thought I was the only one

it's like beethoven

Yes. I've gone as far as saying That Finnegans Wake is not a book in the English so much as it is a work of music with language and the voice as its sole instrument.

>he doesn't enjoy linguistic masturbation over plot

>Is too afraid to read them

He is regarded highly by critics. His books frequently make top position in "best books of whatever" lists. I think he is enjoyable for sure, even witty at times, but not the bastion of surreal literature many people think him to be.
However Veeky Forums's reaction is uneeded since no normalfags care about him really. They do enjoy Coehlo and Brown though but they are several levels below Vonnegut.
