Definitely do it, dude. There's a reason DFW has a boner for DeLillo. Even if you don't like DFW, I am a hundred percent confident that you'll enjoy White Noise because you are:

I've buttreamed every test I've ever taken and attend an elite university, so among mediocrity I'm not actually the most mediocre-ist, SIR.

The statistics are brutal but given that I'm not a retard and don't want to spend my time conjuring up ways to bludgeon people over the head with trendy, hamfistedly in-touch marketing campaigns I think I'll stick to law and alcoholism

I don't think a highly open and conscientious person would ever settle for a comfy but unchallenging and unfulfilling job unless it's really too late for them.

Thanks, man. I'm not actually that tense, just a negative person. I'm surprised most of Veeky Forums is kind and amenable.

That's the worst case scenario for him.
What's likely happening to him is that he just got out of high school, and his parents sent him off to college with the expectation he would figure things out.
Eventually he'll find a career that may or may not include a college education, but first he needs an ego death.
Of course, I don't know his actual situation.

He's saying that because you don't have a plan for the next ten years.
You could be in high school, but you need something that you want to do in life, or people will provide that for you.

No that isn't what happened at all, I just realized that having a career isn't appealing to me at all, so I'll take whichever job isn't stressful and pays well. I figured economics would help me find some comfortable generic position that isn't insanely boring.

I thought that too, now I'm here unemployed because I didn't do an internship in school. Word of advice focus all your efforts on internships because literally no company will train a new grad fresh off of school. Even if your grades are higher, even if you're way better at modeling shit or doing statistics, if you don't have the mandatory corporate cuck year your resume ends up dead in the water.

I was accepted to Humboldt for pursuing a physics degree but got in trouble with the law and kicked out of my high school my senior year. After I'm finished dealing with the courts (6 months from now) I'll pursue my passion, which I've since changed my mind about.
I'm pursuing acting, perhaps an even more difficult career then writing to make a living in.

I doubt even if I had graduated on time and as planned I would've gone forward with pursuing physics.
