Post your country's most famous writer
Very few poets can claim to dominate a language as much as he does. A person may not know who wrote the Meng or the Journey, but I challenge you to find a single Chinese-educated person who does not know who Li Bai is, arguably what Pushkin in poetry is to Russia
I just read "Easter". It felt pretty timeless.
bump
Du Fu is better tho
I'd say Wu Cheng'en, but then I'm not Chinese so wtf do I know.
On that note, what's the best adaptation of Journey to the West?
Naguib Mahfouz -Egypt
...
I really don't know.
Dante ? Umberto Eco ? Manzoni ?
Is Leopardi even known out of Italy?
You tell me, which one is more famous ?
probably dante
Well, t b h I would argue that Mandelstam in a lot of ways is better than Pushkin too
Dante's the most known, and the best. By far. Really, really far.
asstird lindgren is probably more famous than strindberg
not outside of sweden I think
maybe rilke? I have no idea what writers are known outside austria
...
soon to be me desu
hitler for fuck's sake, and rilke was from prague
At least in Germany she suerly is way more popular than Strindberg.
...
Freud obviously :>
But really though, Austria authors are too patrician to be well-known
Luigi Pirandello. Though i've only read his bio. Povero ragazzo
N-no it's Shakespeare
Denmark
#1 Hans Christian Andersen and a close second would be Soeren Kirkegaard.
What are your thoughts on J. P. Jacobsen?
I think it's Dante, everyone knows him outside Italy. Altought I've met americans who don't know who Giulio Cesare was.
Bernhard and Musil.
I've heard about him in school, only mentioned as "I.P. Jacobsen", because back when he was born I was used instead of J. I'll check my book if I have a novel or poem from him. Might have used one when I was studying "The modern breakthrough".
Found it:
I've read "To Verdener" (English translation: "Two Worlds) by him. It's an intriguing novel and very much typical to The Modern Breakthrough. Now, I haven't read much from him, but he's certainly one of the better Danish authors. Which is probably why he's used in our lesson plan. Though I think Henrik Pontoppidan is a better author.
...
Internationally probably Paulo Coelho despite his poor writing. Among Brazilians the most valued writer is probably Guimaraes Rosa or Carlos Drummond
i think its this guy and im not very proud because of that
