Folklore creatures

Love reading about myths, folklore, mythological creatures all over the world. I guess it has to do with the creativity of mankind and superstition.

Anyway i'm looking for a sort of bestiary or other books with the themes i described, with illustrations.

mythical bump

if you want something Veeky Forums try the book of imaginary beings by borges
if you want something more in-depth cryptozoological try something by karl shuker

thanks for the suggestions, going to look those up

Jacques Le Goff's Héros et merveilles du Moyen Âge. I don't really know if it's been translated to English.

Are there any books on the analysis of mythologies that tackle themes of certain creatures representing certain etnies?

goblins being compared to jews is not my first outlook. Looking more for creatures made up for natural phenomenons.

>goblins being compared to jews
I think it's clear by now who the real Goblins are.

I did laugh but not the direction i want this thread to go

The Classic of Mountains and Seas

I'm reading it right now. It's very weird stuff, more like a bunch of themes repeated again and again than a scholarly compilation. But highly recommended.

Havent kekd so hard in a while

>The Classic of Mountains and Seas
Does it have illustrations?

mostly text but has occasional "historic" illustration
>i had to solve about 50 captchas to post this
fuck this shit

pretty cool.

I know that feel clicking cars like a retard to solve a captcha

I've noticed Google is getting greedier and greedier with their "crowdsourced"(=extorted) AI learning exercises. Are they getting closer to sentience, I wonder? Has it already taken over? You can tell It's hungry for more data.

>click the street signs
>WRONG, IDIOT
>click the street signs
>WHAT, ARE YOU RETARDED?
>click the street signs
>YOU FUCKING MORON
>repeat ad nauseum
if Veeky Forums wanted to slow down traffic, it sure as fuck worked
The only one I never have problem with is bridges, for some reason

>Love reading about myths, folklore, mythological creatures

Child/10

yes i love anime, nintendo and taking pictures with my mouth open

> click the street signs
> the captcha has no street signs, just blue sky and clouds
> click all the blue sky
> it works

thanks "chinese obama" elon musk

Borges' The Book of Imaginary Beings sounds exactly what you are looking for

If you want to know some more about this kind of stuff, you should totally read something by H.P. Lovecraft.

Still better than the Gnomes of Zurich.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far i will check them out

The Book of Beasts by T. H. White
Mythology by Edith Hamilton

Not a ton, but some. At leas the Penguin Classics version I have does.

I got your back OP, you can thank me later.

Thanks for the tip. Does it have illustrations :^)?

You bet it does, some/most are pretty lewd.

Fuck off Jason, you cunt. Your myths and legends podcast is shit and all around garbage. Don't try and crowdsource the bare minimum of research you do now.
