What am i in for?

>what am i in for?

Slow beginning, great prison scenes, alright rest of the book. Also liked Dumas's description of the Hundred Days if that counts for anything

>A memorable evening!

This one's a classic for a reason, my guy.

OP reporting in, and damn bros, Danglars is gonna get FUCKED UP

I found the middle of the book to be so....boring!! I actually gave up on it, there was too much bullshit, it was obvious that he was writing for the serial publishing and not for the work itself.

Perhaps I will check out an abridged version

I just picked up The Black Book by Durrell.
What am I in for?

this book is french as fuck

>Count of Monte Cristo written 400 years ago
>people still being imprisoned for political/monetary gain
if you aren't a pessimistic nihilist, then i really don't know what you believe in, because whatever else it is, it's wrong

God this book is so good

I'm around page 1000 right about now and absolutely love it. The revenge porn premise hooked me, the prison chapters were wonderful, and the gigantic slow build after prison has been largely enjoyable. I wasn't expecting to become something of a francophile from this book.

It was clearly the Naruto of its time, with heavy story padding to prolong the profitable serialisation, but it is still a fantastic read and I never got bored with any of it. I just hope the climax, which I've just begun, is satisfying after the incredibly prolonged build up.

It's great 4am

How does this book fare in terms of being an "adventure"-type novel? (Spare me the "if you're reading it as X then you're missing the point!" like the Moby-Dick autists.)

I mean, it's just a straight up adventure novel I guess?

the main character basically spends the entire novel being the most badass person in the book, if that's what you might define as adventure novel.

it is THE original adventure novel

underrated Chesterton reference

basically what these guys
said, and more. It's written with an elegant simplicity that really allowed me to get carried away with the story and not really think of myself as 'reading' it.

Sounds great bros. I hope it stands in league with the good old Knight of the Woeful Countenance, as I ploughed through Don Quixote with huge enthusiasm.

Veeky Forums is not for you slowpoke

it's not as good as Quixote desu but there are plenty of people who would disagree it seems, plus it's a breed of it's own and can't fairly be directly compared
also, women seem to love the main character just as we love The Knight, so it's a good conversation piece with the grils
