Just saw the post, and no I don't think it will
prolly not, the only successful writing i've seen from musicians typically comes from the singer-songwriter type
What are the best lyrics Gira has written lit?
prolly not, the only successful writing i've seen from musicians typically comes from the no-wave type
Is The Consumer worth a read?
Enjoyed the consumer so I'd hope so
Yeah if you like well written albeit occasionally boring descriptions of increasingly disgusting scenarios
if it's anything like the swans it will be pure shit
>singer-songwriter type
so in other words, Michael Gira?
I don't think it will be good by the way but isn't he singer-songwriter?
his writing is fantastic, consumer has some true gems in it
Swans is my favorite band ever by a wide margin but no, I doubt it.
“I never could read Foucault. I find philosophy tedious. All of my knowledge comes from reading novels and some history. I read Being and Nothingness and realized that I remembered absolutely nothing when I finished it. I used to go to the library every day and read every day for eight hours. I’d dropped out of high school and had to teach myself. I read Sartre without any background. I just forced myself and I learned nothing.”
who
Utter pleb.
his lyrics are shit so no
why make a thread about him then

Yes, he is credited with those two roles on his records but contextually we mean someone like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, etc. what distinguishes these people from mike is an engagement with established forms that hones their craft and focuses their abilities to make nuanced effects. Songs with v/c/v kinda structures with chord progressions that go somewhere are a much more potent place to work with words. Mikey is an autodidact turned on by big sounds and forbidding subjects and so even when he makes a ‘rock song’ he’s really doing these drone pieces with open mic spoken word on top.
to be quite honest, Nick Cave is very similar to Gira in this and Bunny Munro was very good (don't know about his other book though)
>Now the sun will hide
>Beneath the ridge tonight
>Clear flames of revenge
>Will lick the black sky
>And I, I will sing
>As you eat their tongues
>For I am the saint
>Who will lead them to us
>So I'm reeling the liars in
>Reeling the liars in
>Here is my hand, now drive the nail in
>I am reeling the liars in
>Here is my tongue, now cut out my sin
>We are reeling the liars in
>There is only one way, one place to begin
>By reeling this liar in
>tfw you'll never listen to Micheal Gira singing beside a pile of burning bodies at dusk, as a choir joins him for a hymn as he's crucified.
Not him, you are for not knowing who he is.
