stock up on bananas

Why don't people on Veeky Forums ever make threads about books after they've read them? These are so boring.

if you read it you'll know what youre in for

A bloated, overrated mess.

Honestly just enjoy the ride, it's so dense with ideas it would take you years to properly encapsulate them in an interpretation of what it means. Enjoy the aesthetic experience of making your way through the prose, treat it like a fucked up roller coaster ride to hell (or should I say the North Pole)

Because we don't read books.

Greatest prose since Nabokov and Joyce

a boomer hippie ranting about his straight white male guilt and his depraved coastal liberal sexual fetishes for a thousand pages

A great but hard book. You will be confused a lot of the time, try to not get frustated. You will love to revisit it from time to time once you finish it.
Also this

He's not a boomer, but still

Shit eating, pedophilia, hallucinogenic prose, 500 different characters, confusion confusion confusion, but some really, really nice moments if you're smart enough to appreciate what you can get.

Its a waste of time... not worth the effort to understand. Pynchon has nothing to tell you that warrants the book's complexity. This book is like infinite jest, reading it or claiming to read it is basically a fashion statement. No one has anything substantial to say about it despite all the hype, its embarassing.

I see the fetishes but I don't see the guilt

Here's a sampling of the Text

Raw unbridled Thanatos.

>all these kiddies trying to get Gravity's Rainbow

The themes are very esoteric, there is some definite truth hidden between the lines.

The book on the casino Hermann Goering should show you just that: Pynchon knows more about the inner workings of society and institutions than he is willing to let on.

In this book are:

Concepts regarding Freemasonry
Astral Projection
Spirituality, and the material aspects of spirituality (which leads to more esotericism and discussion of religious ranking systems and cults)
Casino practices (and the illegal rings therein)

Really, what this book has in it, many people don't even really want you to know. At the price of a lot of confusion.

And the whole thing is one big mystery too. There are many moments, like when Slothrop is surprised by the person in the dark, where you have to actually figure out for yourself who that person was.

It features...

philosophies incorporating Quantum Mechanics
theories of death utilizing the multiverse theory
linguistic influence in culture and religion (the episode on the Quran)
5 different languages
Severely technical engineering concepts
Very elaborate mathematical concepts and philosophies.

Thomas Pynchon may not USE mathematical calculus very often, but when he does, like with the integral of the log cabin, it actually MEANS something very deep. For instance, the underground government superstructure being shaped like SS (two integral signs). These things all mean things to people who actually have a working knowledge of calculus.

And then there are the engineering concepts oh my god don't even get me started.

He quotes Rilke in Rilke's native language. This book is a fucking work of art. It's something you come back to every now and then for fun.

Because it's fiction. You don't read fiction for anything but fun. But it is pretty fun, I will admit, trying to piece everything together.

To add on: this is a fiction book for people who don't read fiction.

It's a fiction book for people who have a lot of knowledge about the world and how it works. Not the Veeky Forums kiddos who sit around on their asses reading fiction all day long.

Lol the Veeky Forums kids don't read fiction all day long. I wish they did. I wish they read even part of the day.

Not from gr but I think this is genuinely good, do you have any writings online?

Tempted to buy it. Is it a manageqble read if english isnt my first language? Considering getting the spanish version, but maybe this thing MUST be read in english.

PLEB

OP just read up on William Pynchon to see what he's getting at

I haven't read gr, is this what it's like? This is great.

Applied calculus isn't really elaborate

You're a fucking fool
I'm butthurt because- I'm an user okay, not your projected monolith and I've spent my whole life autistically reading about history philosophy and later STEMfagging because I have no friends so just give me this one thing you cunt

>The book on the casino Hermann Goering should show you just that: Pynchon knows more about the inner workings of society and institutions than he is willing to let on.
Interesting... Can you elaborate?

I can guarantee you, you probably are not using the mathematical symbols creatively enough to understand some of the points he is making.

The whole part on the Hermann Goering Casino is about determinism, essentially. You are determined by your external surroundings in this part of the book.

Also, to add on. There are forces at work in Casinos, businesses, corporations, stock market, whathaveyou that utilize the philosophies espoused in the Hermann Goering chapter, what they do is determine everything before it happens.

That's all I'm going to say, much of what is in there is self-explanatory if you use a critical lens.

Pseud

I'm engaging in actual literary discussion here, thank you.

Really?

Oh yeah. That's something that doesn't happen enough on here.

I liked the GR discussion threads recently though, those were pretty cool.

You're not selling the complexity of the novel at all... you're just sperging out desu.

t. biggest pynchon head in this thread

This x1000. fuck Pynchon.

I've only read it once really, relax 'Pynchon head'.

You come across as a pretentious faggot, no offense.

p.s. just because my post was bigger doesn't mean you aren't the pretentious pseud.

Eh? I mean the Klaxons are okay I guess, nothing special though.

I haven't read his other novels, maybe they aren't a complete waste of time.

You can't understand it with just one reading

Agreed.
Agreed.

Yes you can.

Also, I have gone back and re-read certain parts.

You have to understand, pseud, you can grasp the concepts being presented but only if you are intelligent enough. As I have demonstrated sufficient knowledge of the concepts and you have not, I declare myself smarter than thee. Good day sir.

Mmm, not really

Pynchon isn't about "concepts" he writes the same, libertarian story every time. It's about his elegiac prose

I think this discussion is over, pseud.

Oh. My. God.

You are the biggest retard in this thread. The ONLY reason you read Pynchon is to read between the lines. You do NOT read Pynchon just for the prose. It would be like reading The Old Man and the Sea JUST for the story.

God you are fucking insufferable.

I heartily suggest you kill yourself.

What? I've read him enough to know that plot isn't his priority

Right... that's what I'm saying.

Ever feel like people just aren't on the level of literary discussion you're on sometimes Veeky Forums?

But there's no concept to grasp outside of his lucid thought process.

He doesn't say anything new, he just says it right

Would you tripfag so I can filter out any autism you spew on this board? Please and thanks

You thought I was talking about the plot when I clearly wasn't.

Now you are just trying to annoy me, like a gnat on a hot desert day. I could squash you, but I will choose not to.

Here's another pseud everyone!

Suck my cock faggot!

Shore

Any Pynchon fans should check out my band, the Farting Fuckfaces. We are very influenced by Pynchon. We have several songs that make sly reference to his work and we've set a few of his own songs to music.

Shut up eric

I have nothing published online or anything.
I have the only copies.

Here's some more.

And second user, yes & no. The "feel" of it was inspired by gravity's rainbow, make of that what you will.

>You do NOT read Pynchon just for the prose.

Nigger
What
?

I wear clothes. Do you, or is it impossible for you to put on such pleb things as cloth?

Did you mistake fiction for philosophy again?

Lots of arguments against understanding it, but not for not reading it. It's enjoyable and interesting. Same as a lot of fiction.

Because no one on Veeky Forums actually reads anything.

Every time I come here you guys are talking about Infinite Jest and and gravity's rainbow. Maybe you guys should try to read a book that people can stand finish?

why are you so stand-offish?

good lord... fucking call your dad, or punch him or something. goddamn.

>it's another user gets drunk and projects all his shortcomings onto Veeky Forums episode after his summary of a wikipedia article was laughed at episode again

>more triggered pseuds

Look this one even posted a picture of the fraud himself DFW

anti-oedipus in prose

He is right you know

Are you happy with yourself?
