Any mensa members here?

Also, if I pass the test, is it more or less likely that I can get my book published?

Mensa seems like the lamest group of people ever. Who would seriously want to pick their friends using a standardized test?

Mensa is intellectually dishonest

youtube.com/watch?v=qPMKqyaXtHI

I was worried about this.
So putting "mensa member" in the author sleeve wont impress anyone?

Maybe I should write some contrarian huffpost piece

I was a member for one day until I got access to their internal forum and decided to leave the organization.

Why are you so concerned about publishing a book? Are you unable to pay your bills?

2% of the population could get into Mensa. What’s that, 6 million Americans? I’m sure there aren’t 6 million good writers in america. I’d bet on maybe 6000 ok good ones, and 6 that are important

no, it would just be fun to have people interested in my stories

This will be a great maymay

Mensa member here
It's a bullshit ass organization
Their monthly mag is written by dyslexic 4 year olds
Their meetings are a buffet of loserdom
their whole schtick is garbage, and most of em wouldn't know derrida from flo rida.

I joined for the lower insurance and credit card rates, and so that 6 months into a relationship she can "find" the membership card lying around.

THAT IS ALL. Fucking people are herbs. "Oooooh, I took a standardized test, I'msmarter than you"

Fuck outta here

Then start a Zine with me and we'll mirror it online.

This is the one thing most people are confused about. 130 IQ (or even 140) is not special or even impressive. Creativity is the real genius.

adultswim.com/videos/the-eric-andre-show/mensa-knight/

Yeah, it's like jerking off in the mirror.
Self involved AF, stupid AF

But still, them lower rates

mon feel when thought was atleast a 130 but ended up testing 114

no wonder I can't get the Greeks

them lover rates dum as fuck creativity is real genious read books dont play games fools

reading a book IS playing a game

J.D. Salinger had an IQ of 106, but he was objectively more talented, insightful, and creative than at least 90% of the people on this list
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mensans

Pic related apparently has an IQ of 156. She's also an alcoholic who sucks cock for a living

Asimov is probably the best writer in the organization. That's pretty sad.

None of my professors are in mensa, cant think of a genuinely impressive person in that organisation.

If people dont think youre intelligent then join. Its sort of a look at me im smart card.

I can tell you're really a Mensa member and not somebody who is incredibly insecure about their own IQ. The sort of person who hates the notion of IQ as a measure of intelligence would definitely be sort of person to join a high IQ society.

I honestly did it as A.) Personal Challenge B.) at the time - don't know if still true - you could only take it once. Once. C.) Cheap shot way to impress certain ppl D.) Lower interest rates, bargaining chip in mortgage apps if you play it right E.) Wanted to meet other folks who liked coding and electronic music and obscure graphic design.

Whether or not you believe me is, like, the last thing in the entire world I could care about.

>Why you reply then?

I wanted to clarify some shit, but not for you. Just in general. I'll be out now, tho.

There are a lot of writers and actors in Mensa but that's really beside the point. It's a high IQ society and not a high achievement society. It's just a way for people with high IQ to network with other people with high IQ. That's it. They're not even trying to bring in people based on their success.

You're trying awfully hard to prove your in Mensa without actually proving anything.

The problem with people like that is that they feel like they have already achieved something by being part of the club. It's a dead end.

You think they feel superior to you but you have no reason to really believe that. That's you're own insecurity.

You may be able to network with people with high IQ but it seems highly likely that they'll be severely lacking in other important criteria

Why do you believe that? Why do people with a high IQ have to have a special fault?

Does it actually save money? I ask my sample tests online come back 130+ so I probably have a shot. I thought about joining just to laugh at the egotist autists but I don't want to shell out for the membership fees

It's not because they have a high IQ, it's because Mensa attracts spergs

go lick a dog's ass till it bleeds.

(What book is that from, do you know?)

It's not bad. It's a feather in your cap. It's not something everyone can do. You don't HAVE to tell anyone. Usually I don't. But it's edged me into a job and cut my credit interest.

More than that, they don't require you to take the WAIS or anything. They have their own entrance exam and I think it has over a 50% pass rate

Wait, what are some things you get lower rates for?

Insurance, credit, used it for lower point rate on a mortgage

does the existence of mensa prove that iq is not an accurate metric for intelligence?

will the zine be effay related?

No, not really. I think I'm a better argument. I'm a fucking trash fire, or I have been at least, for decades.

I also got really good SAT's, while failing every class.

I think the nature of human perception and the mutable nature of intellect in general completely invalidate the notion of a fucking number for smarts.

nah
nothing could be less effay than a mensa meetup

Trust

OH THAT

No, fiction and short stories and lil essays and shit

>(What book is that from, do you know?)

No I don't know what book that is. Is it a Mensa newsletter? Is that supposed to prove something?

ebay.com/itm/Mens-Sana-Apr-1970-Vol-1-No-2-Mensa-Newsletter-Mensana/350430878100

whatever, you win. I'm not in mensa. Just for you.

Sorry, name is too prominent on stupid certificate I would not dig out of my file cabinet anyway

The hardest I've ever laughed was when I pulled up behind a soccer-mom SUV with a Mensa license plate frame with this bumper sticker plastered right next to it. How the fuck does someone fall so hard?

Yeah I know a guy that was financially successful despite being retarded therefore intelligence isn't real.

Oh, wow. Shit.
Eeeek.

Not even once.

Would read that zine if you shared it on Veeky Forums
You are that guy that posts on Veeky Forums right?

yup. I'll post the main mag when I get it in a week or two, it's better. Not that the NY newsletter's any mark of quality. It's just 90% meeting times for special interest groups.

>your post is too hard for me to understand, so I'm going to invent an entirely new argument for you and then complain about it
Yeah you love to suck horse cocks and huff bleach therefore you are not a total fucking retard. Great argument. Your love of sucking farm cock really showed me how smart you are

Really fucking surprised to see Kanye West there, what the fuck?

>Carrera is an atheist.[6][24] As of November 2014, she wore a colander on her head for her Utah driver's license photograph. State law normally prohibits the wearing of hats in driver license photos, but there is an exception for religious headwear, and Carerra's colander was worn in honor of the religion of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.[1][4] She is one of about a dozen "Pastafarian" Utahns who have worn a colander in their official state ID photos.[25]

lol

So what do mensa people do at their meetings? Play board games? Discuss?

If reddit were a porn star

Fawn over their big throbbing brains

Depends, because a lot of the meetups are "SIGs" (special interest groups), so they might be playing board games, discussing films, books, whatever.
But WGAF, because it's a buncha dweebs discussing X. I mean, It's not exactly spirited discussion, you know? It's people who take this crap srs, and IME, the majority of them would be happiest smelling their own farts.

Truthfully, I've had better debates & discussions on Veeky Forums. Maybe if I'd tried harder I woulda met some interesting folks, but I was always left with this conviction that people who are going to gatherings & meets & such aren't the interesting ones.

Those people probably have better shit to do.

...

Mensa will not help you with the only true purpose- getting laid

Nah, it's pretty accurate in regards to intelligence. Just that intelligence isn't the sum of an individual, not even the sum of their mental capability. I think concerning yourself with it is a negative, in regards to actually doing something.

My parents pushed me to take the test, I did and got in.

Honestly, the worst group of fucking people you'd want to be around.

>Be High IQ, with fuck all to show for it.
>Start club for similarly non-appreciated men.

I never saw a girl/woman near it.

Mensa's entry requires a 130 IQ. The difference between an 130iq and 150iq invididual is immense. 130 isn't really smart. There are a lot more 130iqs than 150s in the world. Nobody who's actually intelligent would join Mensa as they wouldn't bother with the hordes of barely 130iq who joined for the pseud cred. Therefore Mensa is a masquerade.

My dad took the test as a joke and got in with an IQ of 133-138. I don't remember exactly. He thought it was funny and didn't do anything else with it, threw the certificate away.
