I think what you're witnessing is the natural progression of culture(some could argue degeneration). Memes replicating, evolving and replacing old memes. I haven't read any of his books, I've only heard him speak but I still don't understand the significance of cleaning your room. Sure it makes sense that you need to live in a clean environment to be productive, and you need to first take care of yourself, but it's not such a profound or revoluntionary idea that I feel like it's just a meme Veeky Forums espouses.
