> What do you do when you are working as hard as you can to put your house in order but its still pathetic?
as far as i remember there's no examination of this sentiment beyond dismissal as pride, ungratefulness, resentment of "Being", resentment of consciousness. Several times this damnation is followed (not improperly I guess) by saying that this line of thought leads to atrocities like Eric Harris/Columbine, and then he says something about the Gulag Archipelago. In several places (eg bottom of p362) JP uses "there are starving children in Africa so be thankful for your peas" as a remedy to these thoughts which i think is awful
Recall Dr Peterson is a lightning bolt superstar gradstudent-turned-university-professor-turned-cultural-icon, literal father in a beautiful nuclear family. In R12 he talks about having to come to terms with the horrors of his daughter's bone disease. I.e. Dr. Peterson has his act together and has overcome big demons. How are you supposed to find respect for your own existence if you are, like, a Hartley Hooligan?
Everything about my life is stupid, my demons are stupid, and I am too stupid to confront even them.

I'm listening to the audiobook and this guy is literally crying when reading his book.
I think he's a smart guy with some good ideas, but he got carried away. Also I don't like how he uses muh nazi camps and muh soviet camps as the best examples of human suffering/evil. It seems a bit cheap, tailored at stupid Americans.

People get killed in wars man, no big deal, it's boring. If you think holocaust is that special it just means you've been thoroughly brainwashed by the propaganda (like most people in the West). And I don't even hate Jews in the slightest. Better examples would be some psychos intentionally torturing people. He does mention some like that though (mass shooters).
Jeremiah Young
I don't get why the ethnic group bothers lefties so much.
If they really weren't racist genocide would just be the same as killing a large number of random people.
JBP meanders a lot. It reminds me of people who are bipolar and are in their manic phase.
Gabriel Brown
People kill people in war sure, but they don't plan to exterminate a race with fucking gas and torture that often. And if they did it for some other reason other than race it'd be just as evil.
I'm a Slavshit from Eastern Europe, I'm not that brainwashed.

Peterson eternally BTFO: youtu.be/Jq-e8DWtzvE >Liberals say we should end employment discrimination. I say we should end employment. Conservatives support right-to-work laws. Following Karl Marx's wayward son-in-law Paul Lafargue I support the right to be lazy. Leftists favor full employment. Like the surrealists -- except that I'm not kidding -- I favor full *un*employment. Trotskyists agitate for permanent revolution. I agitate for permanent revelry. But if all the ideologues (as they do) advocate work -- and not only because they plan to make other people do theirs -- they are strangely reluctant to say so. They will carry on endlessly about wages, hours, working conditions, exploitation, productivity, profitability. They'll gladly talk about anything but work itself. These experts who offer to do our thinking for us rarely share their conclusions about work, for all its saliency in the lives of all of us. Among themselves they quibble over the details. Unions and management agree that we ought to sell the time of our lives in exchange for survival, although they haggle over the price. Marxists think we should be bossed by bureaucrats. Libertarians think we should be bossed by businessmen. Feminists don't care which form bossing takes so long as the bosses are women. Clearly these ideology-mongers have serious differences over how to divvy up the spoils of power. Just as clearly, none of them have any objection to power as such and all of them want to keep us working.
Ryder Morris
The point is that if extermination a race is worse than killing the same amount of random people you are admitting to racism, saying that certain ethnic groups are somehow special and need to survive instead of just denouncing the killings of human beings in general.

I can't help but think that Peterson is doing more damage than good to the people who like and follow him. When I see scrawls of text on social media in response to his posts or videos talking about Nietzsche and Jung, based on the style of writing, I can't help but think it's a bunch of kids who don't know what they are doing and now think the solution to their confusion / depression is in reading about historical intellectuals. What I foresee this turning into is no improvement for them at all; in the long run, they will stay in the pit of distress, because it's just one more activity along a line of activities that they have ever done in order to distract themselves from themselves. Peterson may be a professor, but he had depression, and he hardly comes across as someone who has completely overcome it; he doesn't exactly seem like the guy to try and emulate, regardless of what his intentions seem to be with his books and speeches.

I think nearly the opposite of him. I agree that his following is clearly misguided 19-25 year old middle class male undergrads who need fatherly advice, but if you take a look at his teaching style as a whole, if you listen to his lectures, it's clear that he is reviving classical teaching methods. He attempts to weave as many subjects together as he possibly can when teaching. He uses classic texts as well as contemporary scientific research, because he believes in the value of fiction. I hope this style catches on, he teaches in the same way (albiet watered down) that historically great thinkers were taught. I think it's a good thing, honestly

Is premeditated murder worse than accidental manslaughter? Our legal system thinks so. Most people believe that intention matters. Choosing to kill people based on race/some other aspect of identity is a different act than choosing to kill the same number of people at random.

The left regards race as something that shouldn't be a considering (except when they think it should be) which makes it seem especially evil since they view it as hatred for something out of the control of the individual.

>Choosing to kill people based on race/some other aspect of identity is a different act than choosing to kill the same number of people at random.
It's different, but you've yet to demonstrate why it's worse. I don't understand why you're comparing the difference to the difference between premeditated and accidental killing, since it would be premeditated/voluntary in both cases.
Parker Martinez
great, no discussion of the op, just more repetition of the mantra

I can't believe I have to explain why genocides are wrong. It's not because lives of one race are worth more than another, it's the fact that the murders were specifically carried out to target a given group. This applies to any group: black, white, christian, muslim, cis het white males, Trump supporters, Peterson fans, etc.. This does not negate the fact that mass murders with random victims are still tragedies, no one is denying that. Targeted killings, like premeditated murders, have an extra dimension of evil because of the motivations of the killer. It's not saying some lives are worth more, it's saying some causes of death are more reprehensible.
Jordan Cooper
This brainlet lmao
Lincoln Williams
Why is it worse to target a specific group within humanity than targeting all of humanity by killing humans "at random" as you put it? I don't see why the former method of selection is more hateful than the latter. Surely, wanting to destroy all kinds of humans carries with it more net hate than only wanting to destroy certain types of humans, ceteris paribus.
David Gomez
What is Peterson's theory on art?

We aren’t judging anyone by their race, we are judging a mass murderer who wants to kill only people of one race. His crime is more messed up, his motive reeks of insecurity and xenophobia.
Joseph Gray
Because you’re targeting people for something that shouldn’t matter, their race. Surely someone who wants to chop down all the trees is slightly more sane than someone who has a vendetta against a certain species, for no reason other than how they grow compared to other trees.

You cope with your existence by existing. Even when it's painful and pathetic, it's the only thing you've got. You can leave it or wait until it's taken, and whatever happens in the meantime, whether you continue suffering until the very end or find some way to deal with your pitiful existence, does not change anything. There is no answer, because there was no ulterior intention behind the making of worthless lives.
Like all genetic missteps, the meaning of your life is to tell evolution what should not be propagated. That is the only objective meaning, and any subjective one created will likely not stand the test of actual worth.

>My name is Mikhaila Peterson.
>I was a really sick person since I was 2. I was prone to getting bacterial infections (strep throat, pneumonia, etc.), yeast infections, colds, etc. I was diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis when I was 7 and ended up with multiple joints replaced at age 17. I started antidepressants for severe depression/anxiety in grade 5. I suffered from “idiopathic hypersomnia” – aka I couldn’t wake up. I spent approximately 17 hours a day sleeping and the rest in a half daze. I had itchy skin starting at age 14 that I just ignored. Then my skin problems started at about age 19. Cystic acne, painful bumps, blistering…
I was on multiple medications, antidepressants, immune suppressants, amphetamines.
>Then I started experimenting with diet. Almost everything I had read had told me it doesn’t really matter what you eat, as long as you work out. That is a HUGE and dangerous lie. What you put into your body is as important as what medications you’re taking. Changing the way you eat can change your life.
I’m in remission from everything. I don’t take any medications (I do take vitamins). The hardest thing to get rid of was the depression, but that’s gone too!
My dad suffered from a number of health problems too. Not like me, but the same depression and similar fatigue and weight gain. Gum and skin problems. He’s fixed too. He lost 50 pounds in a year on this diet. For anyone who watches his videos, you can see the difference from December 2015 to January 2017. This is huge. Check out the list of foods we got better with for more info! Leave a comment, and give it a try if you feel lousy, or if you don’t.
Wtf is wrong with this family? Who gets depressed at grade 5? Who let's their children take antidepressants at that age?

Same here, my demons are ridiclous and I'm going down the path of brainlet in my life because I make myself unhappy
I spent most of my 20s studying, working and advancing in my engineering career Now I'm nearly 30, probably make more than anyone on Veeky Forums and I am always depressed and use my money irresponsibly
I moved to another state, lost my friends, and lost sense of purpose in my life other than work and developed a long standing addiction to Veeky Forums. I spend every day here since late 2016
My problem isn't my career, I am really alone in this city and am looking for new ways to live life. Everywhere I go people usually act like they dont want to be friends etc.. I'm not even trying to befriend them i'm just talking to them and they do mention casually they are married.. not looking for friends to hang out with etc...
