Saw a book in the my local bookstore called "Assassination Generation: Video Games, Aggression, and the Psychology of Killing." Do you think violent video games desensitize people to violence and death?

I mean I'm desensitized to violence and death but that probably has more to do with rekt threads than anything
a better question is, do you think this belongs on Veeky Forums?

I asked a question about a book and it's a philosophical question with interesting implications for mass psychology and the ideology of violence. But yeah let's have more memerson threads.

why don't you go and read it instead of making speculative threads

why don't you go post in another thread faggot

I think maxing out the amount of friends you can play war games with at around 2-4, instead of beating the shit out of each other with sticks in teams of 10, is closer to the cause. But then I liked the Grug thread.

>tfw haven't had a stick fight in ten years

put down the gun, jimmy

concerned boomer grungina no want violence want peace and big berry pension

>Do you think violent video games desensitize people to violence and death?

Okay, I've played gory, violent games for as long as I can remember and I was one of those kids who was lucky enough to have parents who didn't give a shit about the kinds of games I played so I got pretty deep pretty quick.

I usually try to avoid those execution/gore videos out there on the web but every once in a while my curiosity gets the best of me and I watch some sick shit some anonymous asshole links on /b/.

Good example was a week or so ago actually, watched a Mexican cartel execution video where they cut one fellows throat and then set to skinning the guys kid alive, splitting open his chest and cutting his heart out.

Definitely the worst one I've ever watched in terms of sheer brutality and indifference. Thing is, throughout things like this a huge sort of "pit in my stomach" feeling always comes over me and I occasionally start to cry (I did this time)

It was also a very uncomfortable sort of juxtaposition for me, most years I go deer hunting and I've killed/skinned my fair share of animals and this video.. Lets just say I could subconsciously smell the blood, the tang of skin being pulled away from muscle tissue.

I've in a way been a party to this sort of brutality and it makes me feel odd.. Maybe I'm just a wimp? I don't know.

>TL;DR: No, simulated 3D violence is worlds apart from the real thing. Only a sociopath would enjoy or be unmoved from the reality of violence.

Thing I always say, our violent nature gives way to our violent emulations, not the other way around.

want to know how I know you came directly from reddit?

>making a thread on Veeky Forums because you saw a book once (but obviously didn't read it)

Well, I didn't and I'm not even kidding when I say that I've never even browsed reddit but go ahead, shoot.

I'm assuming its because you don't like my sentence spacing.

Come on, lets have it. Chop chop, faggot.

>obscene reddit spacing
>TL;DR
>self acknowledged wimpy fag mentality
>crying
if you didn't pick up this shit from reddit then what hugbox did you come from

Yes, they repress it while simultaneously exciting latent ancestral sadistic drives which is why torture porn is so popular now; violent media has long term side effects but it won't make you a serial killer, it probably exacerbates violent ideation in violent psychopaths though.

>>obscene reddit spacing

That's just the way type/format, I love the fact that it pisses you off so much.

>TL;DR
Are you implying this isn't a thing people have been using on Veeky Forums for years? How fucking new are you?

>LOL U ADMIT CRYING!? LOL WHAT A FAG

Alright tough guy, whatever you say big boy.

butthurt babby boy

>a webm made him cry

Holyfuck what a faggot

I genuinely enjoyed beating my friends with those plants with the spikey leaves and teasing them about fucking dead animals, although I'm not surprised those friends haven't spoken to me in about 12 years.

reddit

no but they do make people antisocial virgin faggots

If anything violent games have made me more sensitive to the sensations and visceral thrills of videogame violence.

They're a lot more stimulating and satisfying to me now then before.

I think it can desensitise you to violence, but that's not as important as how it can make you feel and change your perspective. I'm thinking mainly of gore, it can give you a sense of a hopeless, cruel world, and make you pessimistic.

Also GTA is a power fantasy, pathetic people dream of violence and power to get back at society.
