Manufacturing Consent
how old are you?

Chomsky, Manufacturing Consent

or better yet Lippman's Public Opinion. That is an eye-opening experience

here is what they quote on WIki:

That the manufacture of consent is capable of great refinements no one, I think, denies. The process by which public opinions arise is certainly no less intricate than it has appeared in these pages, and the opportunities for manipulation open to anyone who understands the process are plain enough. . . . [a]s a result of psychological research, coupled with the modern means of communication, the practice of democracy has turned a corner. A revolution is taking place, infinitely more significant than any shifting of economic power.... Under the impact of propaganda, not necessarily in the sinister meaning of the word alone, the old constants of our thinking have become variables. It is no longer possible, for example, to believe in the original dogma of democracy; that the knowledge needed for the management of human affairs comes up spontaneously from the human heart. Where we act on that theory we expose ourselves to self-deception, and to forms of persuasion that we cannot verify. It has been demonstrated that we cannot rely upon intuition, conscience, or the accidents of casual opinion if we are to deal with the world beyond our reach.

Thank you!

Got another one: historian Daniel J. Boorstin's The Image: A Guide to Pseudo-events in America (1962)

"..this wonderfully provocative book introduced the notion of “pseudo-events”—events such as press conferences and presidential debates, which are manufactured solely in order to be reported—and the contemporary definition of celebrity as “a person who is known for his well-knownness.” Since then Daniel J. Boorstin’s prophetic vision of an America inundated by its own illusions has become an essential resource for any reader who wants to distinguish the manifold deceptions of our culture from its few enduring truths."

What's the deal with left wing and independent watchdog new outlets politics being labeled as Russian shilling?
Are there any books about the other times this has happened.
Also this whole deal is used for Facebook and Google to censor news. Good gopher works for searches

bingo

Center left people can't understand why Clinton lost, and there's some evidence to suggest Russia pulled some shit during the election (the extent to which is likely negligible). They want to blame the loss on Russian interference rather than Clinton's campaigning because it allows them to maintain the fantasy that they're right about politics and don't need to actually put forward policies that people like the same way Bernie did.

This means that anyone criticizing Clinton from the left needs to be ignored or discredited, and the best way to do that is to accuse them of being Russian shills or bots or whatever.

t. bern victim

The neo-liberal pricks who run the democrat party don't want to lose their power. They want their party to stay on the Obama/Hillary platform until the end of time. So whenever someone threatens to change things they use every cheap trick in the book to trick the public into continuing to accept the status quo.

it's like your pdfs are getting increasingly angrier and more longwinded

>we document three potentially problematic aspects of neoliberalism’s use: the term is often undefined; it is employed unevenly across ideological divides; and it is used to characterize an excessively broad variety of phenomena.

These all also apply to "Alt-Right"
