lol didnt knew. im reading it in my Kobo, it says 250 pages, but it stays at the same number for like 3 pages. anyways, Kobo is a fast read, so i read it fast and nice, like 3 afternoons, no hurry.
it features lots of pimp on whore violence, and it all is very reasonable given the circumstances. i guess the new readers frown at the sight of that.

Not that guy but you can tell Chappelle lost some of his edge, partly out of self-policing despite trying to approach the unapproachable topics. It felt very much like he was apprehensively doing so out of a perceived obligation to himself, to comedians at large, trying not to cede territory to the PC sycophants policing media, but ends up doing so somewhat ineffectually because he can't resume his characteristic candor in this age of such tumultuous social landscape. It's unfortunate because I hope he'd pick up where Killing Them Softly left off, but there's a definite gulf between the two. As far as I'm concerned I feel I can only rely on Bill Burr to give me a good-to-great performance these days. The whole landscape of comedy would be different if Patrice O'Neal were still alive today and it's a tragic robbery that of all the people who would be able to tackle the modern social climate with disregard for any personal consequences, as a professional bridge-burner, that he is no longer here to do it.

I liked them too although they were quite different from his typical specials. I feel like a lot of "Legendary" comics just start telling cool and interesting stories that aren't necessarily funny as they get older. Carlin did it a lot too, I wouldn't really laugh at his later specials but I still enjoyed em for the unique storytelling. It's kinda like they're trying to make actual comments and critiques about society in a humorous manner as opposed to just saying the funniest shit that they can think of. In terms of raw funniness though I don't think the new specials come close to "Killing Them Softly" or For What It's Worth." Those are the gold standard and pretty much untouchable imo. But the new shit is still real entertaining and I don't think Chappelle has lost his edge, his goals are just a bit different this time around.
I read it when I was 18 or 20, along with Rule of The Bone (Russel Banks). As a euro boy I really appreciated the insight on US street culture.

Me too, the story about the woman who lied about the black boy who wolf-whistled at her was a pretty powerful story and ended with an optimistic tinge I didn't expect. Chappelle is still very funny but his story-telling just seems to improve.
