ask the book thread on Veeky Forums

aight.

>if you want some historical fiction:
Go for Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe Stories, Warlord Chronicles and the Saxon stories. If you want something on rome, then pick up David Gibbins' Total war series, its surprisingly good.

>If you want some non fiction
I havent read much non fiction, so most of what I have is from my country, so all I recomend is Laurentino Gomes' trilogy 1808, 1822 and 1889, which talk about the arrival of the portuguese court in Brazil after napoleon invaded Portugal, the declaration of independence and the formation of the republic.

Europe's Tragedy by Peter H. Wilson gives a lengthy account of the politic and economic situation before, during and after the 30 years' war. Its quite a cozy book

This. Warlord chronicles is great too, desu.

I, Claudius
Memoirs of Hadrian
The First Man in Rome

You just named a bunch of tabletop and video game books.

I can see the Video Game books, but none of those have anything to do with tabletop

Thoughts on Sharon K Penman historical fiction? I've found the history interesting, though her writing isn't great.

Julian and Creation by Gore Vidal are both great reads.

Conn Iggulden's War of the Roses- series

Mika Waltari

I thought The Sunne In Splendour was excellent, probably my favorite book on Richard III.

Can't believe nobody has recommended Simplicius Simplicissimus yet.
Its about a guy knocking about during the 30 Years War in the HRE.
It's got some pretty funny bits and a few darker scenes in the earlier chapters.

There is a great history of the thirty years war by C.V. Wedgwood.

Man Veeky Forums has gone downhill

And you are just figuring this out? Now you best be on your way.
