wife went to gym when we met
1 year later she's gained 40+ pounds (that she will admit to)
and it just went to shit from there....
during separation she seemingly kept an apartment key and I signed a new lease, I thought she didn't have key anymore and things were done

she ran into my house one day and stole my mailbox key so she could steal our tax return check ($7,000 that we agreed to split and I would piss off and she'd never see me again)
I called the cops, they said "we can't do anything until the judge decides" and said "community property"
I told them "I signed a new lease though, she was supposed to give key back" didn't matter, cops treated me well, but their hands were tied
She changed my mailing address, even though we didn't have same last name, again, nothing could be happened
She closed out bank account and paypal (how I made money to live was selling stuff on etsy and ebay)....you guessed it nothing could be done
so after 3 months of basically abuse I decided "fuck this" got insurance on "our" car, and drove "our" car across the continent back home
lesson learned, when you're married, you can't just get up and leave someone...they can still fuck with you and as a man the cops won't do shit to help you really

The real trick is having a "right" woman (personality, looks, loyalty, single) available around you, somehow meeting her, having proper chemistry and timing in your life, being attractive to her in body and personality, and that's all without even considering your own happiness and if you'd want to be with her for life.
I haven't done terribly with women the last 8 years but I sure as fuck haven't done well enough to think I'll ever hook up with a girl worth marrying.
