Ohayou gozaimasu, /rlg/!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's play our best today!

1st for Xom. END IT ALL IN SHITPOSTS

...

I replied to my own OP instead of linking it in the old thread...

DUDE

...

IMAGINE

SO SLOW THAT TIME LOOPED AROUND AND HE DID IT IN THE FUTURE

step from time is a hell of a drug

SEVEN RUNES

What's the Dark Souls of roguelikes?

cdda is the hardest and most skillful roguelike, if that's what you're asking

Spelunky

>Xom roars with laughter!

...

>You are straying from the path of individualism
>That was rather dishonorable
>How unfair!
>You feel less knowledgeable
>That was not very enlightening
>That was rather lethargic
>How impatient!
>Stop, you brute!
>-more-

HellMOO.

That's a MUD.

which is one type of roguelike, yes

Except it's real-time, and thus cannot be a roguelike.

not him but...it's sortof fuzzy
I mean they share a lot lot lot of properties but MUD is not a subset of RL even though they're close cousins

>Antaeus getting oneshot last thread

That's for the faggot who said SpEn are shit since they drop invis from their book

>SpEn

...

veh altar is pretty sweet

He didn't get oneshot though?

>.12
That was at the height of SpEn power too. Good times.

>No chei pullover hoodie
I can't get comfy with this.

>videogame clothing

>Xom thinks this is hilarious!

Are the several dozen martial art styles in Cata learnable in-game? In stable.
Seems kinda silly to have them all just at character creation.

You don't train UC from the getgo, you train transmutations until you can learn spider form at XL3, you learn spider form, then you train only poison magic until spider form is around 20% failure. Then you can turn off poison magic, and put in most likely onto UC.

Spider form is important to rush because it:
>gives you a to-hit bonus
>gives you a 'tiny' size which increases your EV
>gives you extra DEX on top of that to-hit bonus and that 'tiny' size
>increases the base damage of your melee attack
>puts a venom brand on top of that increased base damage

It used to also give you .8 movedelay and cling, but alas, it was too strong.

Yeah, there's manuals in the dojos.

How should I prioritize leveling skills in DCSS? Rush weapon to mindelay? What next?

There are manuals in the dojos if you pick "more locations". They teach the styles (and usually hold all the unarmed styles rather than the defence or weapon styles, the latter of which are more common in antique shops) in a 20 minute read.

>if you pick "more locations"
Is this a world gen option or what? I've seen dojos on the map before.

Yep, one of the mods.
Unless I'm wrong and you're not using it.

I'm on stable, I guess they just included it in the base game at some point.

Don't rush min delay. Get a reasonable delay (1 swing per turn being the first benchmark) and rotate weapon skill with fighting. Its usually much more exp efficient, since it buys you precious HP and a much needed accuracy/damage boost early on. 1 swing per turn usually happens at 8 weapon skill, so I tend to go 8 -> 5 fighting -> 12 -> 10 -> 16 (the cutoff point for 1 hand weapons). After that, decide on shields or a 2H but never stop training fighting after that.

when does DrTm become (not) a squishy punching bag for worms and rats

When you turn into a spider.

SOME of them have manuals which you can rarely find in dojos or military barracks, but some are only available through character creation

>be transformed
>never not be transformed

If you go to a mansion you can get the niten ichi ryu book pretty easily which makes you overpowered instantly

Man, I couldn't one-shot him. Couldn't even stab him. So I just ended up going to Pan because I was done with the run. Got berserkitis 3, Teleportitis 2, -regen 2, Frail 3, All Stats +4 and a bunch of other cool shit.
Kinda just gave up and tabbed a random PanLord with some impressive close combat damage and died.

And all of that just because I contracted shoutitis. I really want rMut back.

Did you have a way to kill cacodemons and nexokeks that didn't involve walking at them?

you also didn't link to the old thread from this OP

Nope. Not that I cared at that point, anyway. The run ended when I couldn't kill Antaeus in one attack.

I sacced my stabber the last time I played one too, I know your pain

Gross. rMut nowadays is basically iron shot, wand of digging/disint and sputterflies. Or necromut if you're one of those guys.

should i? or do i do what i always do and go extended until i die

>Blurry 3
>Berserk 1
Ascend.

Leave the dungeon.

ded genre

...

I forgot that I had a level 50 psion parked forever.

There was an Emperor Quylthulg here and it probably took 10x as long as Oberon did to kill.

Doesn't help that "not detected by telepathy" enemies take 1/3 damage from psi storm.

Although Psions still get an infinite 0%-fail supply of dimension door and 430-hp heals so I went through both fights spending exactly 0 consumables.

NOTE, ANONS, HOW user USES DESTRUCTION TO PREPARE THE FIGHTING TERRAIN

Fucking retard.

I have never been more triggered by bad play in my life. Why didn't you just go win?

It helps but I still had to do a lot of "dimension door around a corner" when I suddenly got 3 archliches summoned on my head or something.

I don't know how classes without ddoor do anything.

>all those buffs
That class looks crazy.

to be fair like 9 of those are from 1 spell

Well since if you are doing things properly, you blast _Destruction first, >80% of your ?Phase Doors may as well be DDoors.

I really don't like the random factor.

Yeah *usually* you'll be fine, but every once in a while you'll end up moving 1 space to your left and getting triple manastormed by the LLL squad.

depends
genocide is usually good though

If you get Greater Undead dunked on you you should just ?Mass Genocide. If it's as a Kaschei/Vecna escort, you just Teleport.
Phase Door is super strong, but it's not an every day thing. And Destroying terrain makes it super insanely good.

Got damn, my mind is still reeling. Nearly 2000 games played, and you still play like that. user, my heart hurts.

Kind of neat, I guess? Except that I'm nearly at level 35 anyway.

Worth dropping my level 27 Death Sword for PCB 5.0 or just keep playing until the inevitable splat?

I'm pissed. He could have been an authentic awfulplayer too.
>Death Sword
Yes.

what happened

Some of the changes might benefit death swords (there's no longer, say, weapons of orc slaying, just a weapon of slaying that may have any or multiple slays on it).

I don't want to talk about it. All that needs to be said is that Ketziah splatted and that my hopes and dreams for a fellow player in the thread have never been so expertly dashed.

Do you have to *ID* it or just normal ID?

If you *ID* one and see that it slays orcs, you'll recognize another one that slays orcs when you normal identify. If the second one also slays demons, you'll either have to *ID* it or whack a demon to find out.

>MR-

Is it ever worth it?

>killing zombie children makes you feel sad
>crushing their corpses to bits does not
?

Yes

Uh oh...

>HellMoo
Please don't.
It's not a roguelike and it is not a good thing.

does anyone else actually play the original rogue? it and brogue are my favorite roguelikes, and although brogue expands on the foundation of rogue i think they're both unique enough to warrant playing

>aquators

I've had it compiled for a while now, but never got around to actually playing it.

the dumb shit in rogue is part of the fun to me. the thing i like most about roguelikes is hedging my bets in bad situations and coming out ahead. are there any older roguelikes that are more like rogue than nethack? it seems like everything after rogue went in the direction of "add the maximum amount of shit".

this guy was a chump
he cast a grand total of One (1) summoning spell, and only got a Lesser Black Reaver out of it

I spent more time chasing him around the level after he teleported away than I spent actually fighting him

>Got berserkitis 3, Teleportitis 2, -regen 2, Frail 3
>that last one as Spriggan, with the first three
That sounds like true American fun for the whole family.

New to RL's and i suck....

How often do you guys walk away on early level dungeons? I feel like i'm not walking away enough...or throwing enough rocks

also I can now be quintuple-immune to electricity because of razorback

I'd say all the fucking time.

>Is the enemy red or yellow?
Walk away.

>More than one badguy?
Walk away.

>Shooting poison needles?
Walk away.

>Shooting mutagenic lasers?
Walk away.

>Asks if you found a nice girl yet?
Walk way.

youtube.com/watch?v=ejE0tscQmYM

>There has been too much violence. Too much pain. But I have an honorable compromise. Just walk away. Use teleportation, blinking, haste, even your feet, and the RNG will spare your life. Just walk away and you'll find safer XP somewhere else in the dungeon. Just walk away and there will be an end to the faulting.

Walk away from two orcs, notice an ogre.

Which one to pick? I'm a bronze mauler.

I'm thinking of the regeneration one to try out the new regen stacking, but I'm not sure if something like magic resistance is good.

that was beautiful

How similar is Angband to Rogue? Which variants should I try?

is there a way to know the "throw value" of an intem in cata? I just know that rocks and ponty sticks are ok.

Did they remove the invisibility spell in DCSS?

Okay, so I was picking up items, and got full on volume.
Then, given the choice between disposing of a can and picking up another, I chose to dispose. Then, when prompted with what to do with the water, I drank it.
I guess don't do that until it gets patched?
Time to figure out how to submit a bug report for CDDA.

Magic Resistance or Regeneration.

no but the took it out of the Enchanter book

basically if you ever walk forwards towards an enemy (who doesn't have a ranged attack) you fucked up

throw a stone to catch their attention and let them walk to you

Similar to rogue isn't a very useful metric IMO. Angband has a town where you buy and sell stuff and a really big, endlessly regenerating dungeon where you splat things and collect XP. Grinding is possible and very useful. Much of the game is spent collecting specific resistances, intrinsics, and spell effects before delving to depths where you need them to not die. Most monsters are either nearly harmless or exceptionally dangerous.
