In my (not so) humble opinion

- Schindler's List
- The Pianist
- Hotel Rwanda
- The Killing Fields
- The Counterfeiters
- Andrei Rublyov
- Joyeux Noël
- The Proposition
- The Secret of Kells (shockingly)
- The Revenant
- Grave of the Fireflies
- Good Night, Good Luck
- Ed Wood
- Cinderella Man
- Amadeus

Granted, I'm going for period pieces and stories based on significant, documented incidents or persons. But these are all the ones at the top of my head. We could bitch about historical accuracy (coughamadeuscough), but how rare are Hollywood movies accurate?

I'm also going to throw in "The Way Back" in there. It's a still good movie even though it's long been proven to be false.

Have you read The Revenant book? I read it to prepare for the movie and man did the movie disappoint afterwards. I felt as though the movie tried to make Hugh Glass too likeable. Giving him a native american son and giving up revenge to the Native Americans at the end of the movie felt so cheesy.

Some personal favorites on youtube

>First Kill (Psychology of War with Vietnam vets)
youtube.com/watch?v=m0m573MxXXw

>Battle of Long Tan Documentary (extremely well produced doc about an Australian battle in Vietnam)
youtube.com/watch?v=8gUSq7pxux4

>Mein Krieg (German soldier-shot footage and interviews)
youtube.com/watch?v=sAPIb_yXFTU

>Shooting War (combat cameramen)
youtube.com/watch?v=qL13OmyvBsw

Series

>Battlefield (BBC Series, several seasons, WW2 and Vietnam, older but one of the best such series ever made)
youtube.com/watch?v=wbKYbLUkIpk&list=PLTu8nanTJo7HH32t6iduZN_Ji5uQUR_SA

>Soviet Storm (18 episodes on the Eastern Front, Russian produced, relatively new)
youtube.com/watch?v=0A6UWkK2U4s&list=PLnNmfyY_ccRHl0yAJZy3r5Nfq2-Xr22di

There really isn't much record left on Glass other than he existed, worked for General Ashley, survived a bear mauling, and managed to walk 200 miles to safety. Other than that, most info. on him tend to be hearsay from the time that're likely embellished by this point.

>Giving him a native american son and giving up revenge to the Native Americans at the end of the movie felt so cheesy.
I've long come to expect sociopolitical shit like this from Iñárritu. It's still a good movie and groundbreaking in film making technique (even if the eventual product doesn't quite hold up).

Holy shit, you're a pleb. The only good film in your list is Andrei Rublev, the rest is kike shit, and historically inaccurate.

>the rest is kike shit
All we need to know about you.

>The Longest Day
>A Bridge Too Far
>Tora! Tora! Tora!
>Barry Lyndon
>The Pacific
>Band of Brothers

Any good shit set during the 19th century post-1815?

Saving Private Ryan

Das Boot
Gettysburg
Lawrence of Arabia
Passion
Glory

>those first two movies

b8

>Schindler's List

Barely resembles the actual book Schindler's Ark, it paints him as a far more altruistic man than he was. And the book itself was rather shit.

Zulu, Man who would be king

Anyone who offers The Secret of the Kells as a Veeky Forumstorical movie just. Stop posting. For fucks sake.

Not 25 year rule but Black Hawk Down is great

>- Cinderella Man
>- Schindler's List

This is bait

Good list

>the rest is kike shit
>kike shit
/pol/ is that way --------->

A few that I forgot:
>Das Boot
>Run Silent, Run Deep
>Patton
>Battle of Britain

>getting triggered by the word 'kike'
>implying that an over saturation of jewish shit isn't annoying

>>>tumblr

>proof that Veeky Forums is the most shilled out board on Veeky Forums.
I knew you guys were libtards. But fuck this is the most Jewish post I've seen in ages. Next you're probably going to tell me to go back to /po-

Yep! I knew it. Fuck this board. You guys are worst than reddit.

y-y-y-y-y-you're not allowed to s-say racial slurs in my safespace!

I wonder who's behind this post.

>Schindler's List
Good joke

Ok ok Amadeus wasn't historically accurate but c'mon that was a good movie.

How about German-perspective WWII films that aren't about "muh 6 gorillion" and more about the struggle of the German people?

I make a point to watch Joyeux Noël every Christmas

...

Il Gattopardo - L. Visconti
Barry Lyndon - S. Kubrick
Lawrence of Arabia - D. Lean
Doctor Zhivago (though entirely fiction) - D. Lean
Le retour de Martin Guerre - D. Vigne
The Passion of the Christ - M. Gibson
Apocalypto - M. Gibson
La otra conquista - S. Carrasco
Canoa - F. Cazals

Also:
Napoleon - A. Gance

i still haven't seen that but i'm keeping my eyes out for it on hulu or crackle or somewhere. looks good, and the music is quite beautiful as well.

IL GATOPARDO is a fine movie. The book is brilliant too. Instantly made me fall in love with Sicilian history and society.

I shall read it, then. Thanks for the rec!
