Really, it all depends on the metallurgy of your bearings and engine components, and if wet, clutch. Manufacturers list the spec they recommend/require.
I really should've just returned it to the stock gearing or gone 15/48. Just a tad bit tall, though I think something as simple as swapping to a better carb will help. I also think the thing is running a tad bit rich but I can't into carb tuning yet.

Addendum: This is why some people use diesel oil in regular cars and trucks. The additive package, and specifically, ZDDP, is better for certain kinds of bearings, making your bottom end and valvetrain last longer. That's the theory, anyway.
