Is this the worst era to be lonely and depressed?

Is this the worst era to be lonely and depressed?

From the mid 70's onward, yeah. Mainly in that there are higher risk factors for people becoming lonely and depressed so more people are.

I didn't live in any other eras so I can't really say, it sucks either way though.

>given up on life
>total recluse
>dying of loneliness
>still get to shitpost with the lads

it could be slightly worse

In some ways it is, but there's also a lot that makes up for it. We're getting closer to a possible virtual reality, soon people will find companionship with Ai

>having internet and technology almost for free
>worst era to be lonely

pick 1

Not at all lad. Have you ever tried talking with people? They suck. This is the only era where you can avoid this as much as possible without starving and shit.

Yes.

It used to be that if no one liked you, at least it wasn't painted on your forehead everywhere you went. Today, if you don't have facebook, or if you don't have dozens of friends you added from parties on your page, everyone knows that you're a "creep". Nobody ever liked me and pretty much since facebook was introduced, I have been waiting patiently in the hope that the social media fad would blow over. That moment hasn't come yet, though.

People are so judgmental over vapid shit, it's no wonder so many become bitter and misanthropic.

>It used to be that if no one liked you, at least it wasn't painted on your forehead everywhere you went.

For most of history you lived in a small community you never left. If people you dealt with every day disliked you, you'd know.

>Today, if you don't have facebook, or if you don't have dozens of friends you added from parties on your page, everyone knows that you're a "creep".

How's highschool?

Seriously, are you actually self conscious about not having a facebook / not having enough facebook friends? Do you think when someone meets you they immediately check your facebook to make sure you meet the minimum standard of friends or something?

>How's highschool?
Buddy, I'm 25. I actually had a couple of friends in high school whereas now, it's very important to have social media to stay in touch. And yes, have you been living under a rock? Checking your social media accounts to make sure there's nothing wrong with you is exactly what people do. You can't even make a Tinder account without facebook.

You don't have to believe me, but just because you don't, doesn't mean I haven't gotten strange looks from people when I told them I don't have facebook. In college, I even threw one of the profs off because he claimed he could easily find me on google and came up with nothing because I have 0 social media presence.

People do judge you based on facebook, how much likes you get and friends you have, subconsciously if not straight up. There's no denying that to many, your social status is your worth as a human being

I don't have facebook and I'm normie af, Something else is the issue, in fact I get people licking my arse over how right i am to not have a facebook and how much they want to quit theirs

that's just sad

It might be, but there's no doubt going to be people who get their love and caring from Ai, maybe even people downloading their dead loved ones and re experiencing the good times.

It's mostly a sentiment that they don't actually believe in function. It's posturing, mostly, in that they want to come off as not totally-hopelessly addicted to this instant, constant social gratification to somebody who who just gets it on Veeky Forums instead.

You just represent an anti-technological sense of romance in your refusal to be pressured into using it.

>I don't have facebook and I'm normie af
In case you hadn't noticed, this thread is about whether or not now is a worse time to be lonely compared to other historic periods. Obviously i am not blaming a lack of social media presence for my lobeliness; i am merely pointing out how it can amplify said loneliness by essentially putting a big red flag up that alerts others that you are a loser.

In time society may move past selfies and narcissism and become more focused on education, personal projects and self-improvement.

Negri and Hardt were sort of prophetical in one of their works on the matter, as well as a lot of other stuff.

[...] We should understand the society of control, in contrast, as that society (which develops at the far edge of modernity and opens toward the postmodern) in which mechanisms of command become ever more ‘‘democratic,’’ ever more immanent to the social field, distributed throughout the brains and bodies of the citizens. The behaviors of social integration and exclusion proper to rule are thus increasingly interiorized within the subjects themselves. Power is now exercised through machines that directly organize the brains (in communication systems, information networks, etc.) and bodies (in welfare systems, monitored activities, etc.) toward a state of autonomous alienation from the sense of life and the desire for creativity. The society of control might thus be characterized by an intensification and generalization of the normalizing apparatuses of disciplinarity that internally animate our common and daily practices, but in contrast to discipline, this control extends well outside the structured sites of social institutions through flexible and fluctuating networks [...]

Probably the best time to be lonely. Got that internet and porn. Food aint an issue
But also the most isolation-enabling time.

No one gives a shit if youre on social media or not. It's probably you m8 and you just think youre missing out. Friendships don't get made on Facebook, its just something you use to keep in touch with people you can't or wont make the effort to actually see. You wanna make friends join some kind of club or group interest.

A company actually refused to hire me over not having a FB account, not even joking. This era is fucktarded.

>that's just sad

Why would it be sad? It'll be the greatest inventions humanity would've ever created.
