Nah, slippery slope at best. I wasn't saying you either HAVE to do it or drive an auto. I'm just saying that doing somethings that's not absolutely necessary is just fine.
It's not absolutely necessary to double knot your shoes, but plenty of people still do it. No one NEEDS to ride their bikes down mountains, but plenty do.
