Why are Marxists and leftists always putting "neo" in front of any contemporary ideology? Words like neomarxism, neofascism, neoliberalism, naonazism were all created by leftists and it's completely meaningless, if someone is a fascist today he's simply a fascist, nothing """neo""" about it.
Better question: why are leftist shaping our world? Why do they have so much power? Shouldn't it be more balanced between right and left? The media is their terrain and they are experts at social engineering.
Connor Long
> Why are leftist shaping our world? Rights got they turn and failed spectacularly. So it is all lefts now. Shouldn't went the full retard in the past. Now it is all about when leftists would repeat same shit and also go full retard. Sadly.
Adam Martinez
Leftists are only more vocal. In reality, the world is run by right wing neoliberal capitalists.
Matthew Ross
>neoliberal
And here we go
Mason Cooper
>unironically believing in the left/right division lel
>neoliberalism is a meaningless term Not really, it's a well defined term with a specific meaning.
Parker Martin
Neoliberalism is such an idiotic word. It's supposed to denote anyone who's not a classical liberal, so it inexplicably lumps Chicago school, Austrians and even Keynes into the same bag. Moreover, the word was invented by a socialist and it's mostly used as an insult, e.g. it's almost always "THOSE STINKIN' NEOLIBERALS!" rather than "I call myself a neoliberal"
Asher Ortiz
>It's supposed to denote anyone who's not a classical liberal Are you sure? I don't recall anybody ever calling Keynesianism neoliberal.
Nicholas Mitchell
I'm talking about neoliberalism as the idea that personal freedom and market solutions are the best way to fix social problems.
"Consumerism is the most important obligation of the citizenship; freedom is an utterly privatized affair that legitimates the primacy of property rights over public priorities; the social state is bad; all public difficulties are individually determined; and all social problems, now individualized can be redressed by private solutions"
Dominic Evans
>I'm talking about neoliberalism as the idea that personal freedom and market solutions are the best way to fix social problems.
That's called just liberalism, why the neo moniker?
Evan Rodriguez
New Keynesianism is essentially neoliberal. Old and post Keynesian aren't. New Keynesianism is basically mainstream macroeconomics.
Ayden Peterson
They don't. If they do, where is all the renewable energy? How is something like Brexit or Donald Trump winning the republican primary and Bernie Sanders losing the domcratic primary to Hillary Clinton possible if the leftists have so much control? Do you actually consider George Soros figures 'lefist'? That asserts the existence of principles other than money and power for them. Leftists are their gulls. The right totally has a victim complex about leftists feeling as though they are on the righy side of history.
Brody Miller
George Soros is culturally leftist, economically capitalist. He's really similar to American neocons who are not really conservatives, but former leftists who just adopted some capitalist economic ideas while remaining on the left culturally.
Justin Stewart
>Why is *ideology*-
Julian Stewart
The left is wrong. But it will win. Why? Because money.
The left is winning because as the world gets more globalized businesses need to profit. Take Hollywood, it can make a lot more money if it appeals to a wider audience around the globe. So diversity makes sense. Have some Asian leads, some white leads, some black leads. Black people complain the most so they get the most out of it even though they are definitely the least deserving of the peoples considering their actual almost negative contribution rate.
That's why the left will win. Because the right is permanently 'dumb', 'racist' or 'religious'. The left has just as many stupid people, actually probably more. But they hide theirs because theirs are mostly women, blacks, hispanics, etc. And you can't call those groups stupid without being racist or sexist.
It's sad that our greatest places are now infested with permanently increased higher crime rates and permanent increased higher welfare rates.
Gavin Gray
Same goes for music.
The plus side of the left winning is that America wins the culture war. Because you've capitalized on making every type of music popular and all your artists are American.
The left is just a shitty thing where you have to take the good with the bad.
Grayson Hernandez
Why did Hollywood become so shit? And don't say Jews or leftists, those were in Hollywood since day one. Take Alien for example, it was a feminist propaganda created by a Jewish studio but it was still a great film. Whereas today only absolute garbage gets produced.
Mason Sanchez
>Liberals >Left America please
Dominic Wilson
Yeah it's almost like your totally subjective political judgements of art don't actually reflect their content or their perception by other people
Camden Baker
Do you really think Captain America part 7 is on equal footing with Alien?
Jason Ross
I dunno I don't watch that shit but Alien is hardly "feminist propaganda" considering all the characters were written as men
Brody Adams
Have you actually read classical liberals? They talk about all kinds of public reforms, like the introduction of public education, increased democracy, land reforms, etc. Even the British, like Smith, Mill, and Ricardo, let alone french and german enlightenment liberals, like Humboldt and Rousseau are far closer to pre-welfare state, well-regulated markets than neoliberal 'laissez faire'. Neoliberalism is global markets with corporate freedoms beyond the dreams of the anti-wage labour liberals, but with clear central planning of an undemocratic nature. It called neoliberalism because it grew out of a liberal era - the post WWII west.
Jordan Gonzalez
It's a feminist propaganda pretty much explicitly, with Dan O'Bannon (screenwriter) saying he wanted to make masculinity more fragile by introducing men to the idea of rape and unwanted pregnancy. Alien itself is also just toxic masculinity personified, his head is even shaped like a dick, on purpose. The fact that Ripley is a female is only a bonus.
Jonathan Mitchell
>Ricardo >liberal
I'm convinced that you are the one who hasn't read him.
Carter Morris
>introducing men to the idea of rape It is a horror movie dude, the audience is male and the reason it's so effective compared to other 70s horror films is the fear doesn't rely on a dude with a knife or whatever, it's based on a theme (male rape) that had never been done before. I still don't see how that makes it "feminist propaganda." Nothing in the movie is about female political or social equality. Sounds like the same argument that feminists make how all action heroes are chauvinist out of virtue of being male.
>reel3.com/reassessing-alien-sexuality-and-the-anxieties-of-men/ I'm not gonna read this. I read enough feminist analysis of pop culture shit in undergrad thank you. Just because you can argue that it's feminist propaganda doesn't mean it's a big sinister plot by the "Jewish studios" to control peoples minds or whatever.
Connor Lopez
Why is calling things "leftist" becoming vogue again?
Is tribalism trending on the agenda feed meme pool plank twitter blog talk circuit?
Joshua Murphy
>I'm not gonna read this.
Your loss.
> it's a big sinister plot by the "Jewish studios" to control peoples minds
I never said that, stop throwing strawmen around.
Eli Ward
>Neo-Marxism I have yet to hear this >Neo-fascism "Neo-fascism" is basically another way of calling anything you don't like fascism whilst conveniently preemptively ducking anyone pointing out that it's not actually fascist. >Neo-liberalism Neo-liberalism is an actual phenomenon and is accurately termed as such. It's a revival of whiggish tendencies of the 19th and early 20th century. >Neo-Nazism "Neo-Nazism" is used to distinguish between historical Nazism and post 1945 underground movements, despite the ideological differences being trivial if even existent.
Daniel Hall
It's actually the opposite, Marxism had it's turn and it failed spectacularly .
Now we live in a Capitalist dystopia, and everything even slightly to the center in economics is labeled as "leftism" by the ruling ideology.
James Parker
Neo-liberalism is just Chicago school and their derivatives, not Austrians .
Thomas Sanchez
The fact that people ITT can't even agree on what neoliberalism is supposed to be tells me it's a complete meme term.
>It is a horror movie dude, the audience is male and the reason it's so effective compared to other 70s horror films is the fear doesn't rely on a dude with a knife or whatever, it's based on a theme (male rape) that had never been done before.
Maybe this shouldn't be on Veeky Forums, but I've always been under the impression that the theme of Alien revolves more around the anxiety of pregnancy, both its creative and destructive potentials. The movie is ripe with Freudian themes. Body horror was generally popular in the late 70s and early 80s with improved special effects; look at David Cronenberg films and John Carpenter's The Thing.
James Wilson
It's an umbrella term for open markets, supply-side economics, austerity, de-regulation, tax-cuts for the rich etc.
Today it just means "Capitalism on steroids", but in the 70's-80's it was identified with specific policies like Reaganomics, Thacherism , Pinochet's Chile etc.
