they outsourced ruling those countries to immigrants.

WW1 and 2

>what went wrong?

are you actually asking this on a history board? why a former imperial power isnt an imperial power anymore?

>>used to own China

America beat them in ww2. Their settler colony's developed and became peacefully independent, their money making colonies either became impossible to govern or were forecfully made independant by america

Even without WW2 I think that India leaving was inevitable. There was already some violent rebellion going on, including assassinations. Maybe if the Jallianwala Bagh massacre didn't happen things would be different.

WE

The royal we are queen n shiet

>is currently on good terms with all those countries bar China
>only ever "owned" small parts of China

Britain came out of post-colonialism pretty well, I'd say.

>pretty well

Britain made out like fucking gangbusters. All that wealth gained from resource extraction and unfettered market access, and they just got to keep it. And nobody ever gave them any shit about it! As an American it's kind of amazing. Our own former slave race semi-frequently brings up reparations. Our old colonies and client states hate us and are constantly trying to get us to do things for them. But nobody seems to mind that Britain plundered and butchered its way across the world for the better part of 250 years and then got to "retire" into second-tier power status while keeping all its wealth.

The sun still technically never sets

One day america will blow up the entirety of Pitcairn island just to spite the UK

The Queen is a 90 year old retarded lizard woman.

more like americans will turn it into a tourist destination.

Britain is killing itself slowly though.

>fastest growing major economy next to china
>killing itself
kk yank

You know what happened with the US
We never owned China
Keeping African Colonies became too expensive
Thank Gandhi and FDR for India.
Australia and Canada naturally evolved to their own governments

>But nobody seems to mind that Britain plundered and butchered its way across the world for the better part of 250 years and then got to "retire" into second-tier power status while keeping all its wealth.
What the hell, they're being forced to slowly destroy their nation with 3rd world immigrants, what more do you want ? Britain is a mess, its been completely disgraced, raped, pillaged, humiliated, it is being run into the ground as we speak. In fact I feel very sad about it.

The eternal german

Rotherham, Telford, Oxford - all of these cities are full of rape gangs currently. The British people are guilted hard about their imperial past. It may look like the UK did well when it got out of the Empire but it was actually the beginning of the end for Britain itself.

They're starting to catch some shit for certain things, like all those greek statues they stole, but they tend to reply to requests for returns with
>fix ur country first lol

Which is valid, the last thing we need is impoverished greek commies or ISIS hopping over from Turkey to fuck up more historical artifacts.

The people in this thread saying "lol Britain is fucked now" are acting as if it's JUST Britain.

Europe is fucked. Seriously there's a huge identity crisis going on across European countries and they're basically all imploding.

Britain's current downfall isn't due to the fact that they lost their colonial holdings, it's due to the fact that they're still a European country and most European countries are killing themselves in the name of tolerance.

Decolonisation was inevitable after WW2. I can't think of a more peaceful end to an empire in history, it was handled pretty well and amicably with its subjects.

They could easily dominate their colonies because of technological advantage.
But the technology in the colonies was bound to catch up eventually.
The loss of British Empire was inevitable

Some say that the cost of keeping all those colonies was more than its benefits...

>le resources meme
Do none of you sperglords have a source for this ever or what

>America beat GB in WWII
yea ok bud

Economies aren't static entities. The UK's economy is weighted far to much on finance & selling services (ironically mostly to the EU). UK is fucked when the next financial crisis rolls around.

>the UK is growing faster than India
ok

You know little of the child abuse endemic on the islands if you believe it's only a muh rape gang issue or the fact that many high up people in UK society engage in sex crimes.

The UK developed modern democracy and spread it around the world and then voluntarily disbanded the empire.

But democracies never existed in most colonies though except for the settler ones.

You do realize Brexit won, right?

India is the largest democracy in the world. Nigeria has democracy (despite the corruption). The West Indies are democratic. South Africa is democratic.

Virtually no third world immigrants ever came from the EU. That was all British policy.

I meant when they were colonies.
Even then it took years to enter democracy for many of them and for some they added their own influence to the model of democracy they took.

>Even then it took years to enter democracy for many of them

Simply not true, every single one of the countries I listed was left with democracy, only South Africa is the outlier in that it was left with democracy on a racial basis.

The Brits had a policy of making colonies indepedent so long as they were leaving democracy in their wake.

Face it, the British Empire was always crap

There are already two boards for this level of posting. There is no need to drag Veeky Forums down if international shitposting competitions about things you don't know about are what you enjoy.

Then don't bring up this shitty joke empire if you want Veeky Forums to remain a serious board
Go jerk off that collection of shitholes you used to own on /pol/

oh fuck off.

nice rebuttal there /pol/ack

See That's all I have to say.

You don't seem remotely like someone I am interested in having a discussion of history with.

BTW I'm not using this as a tool to "argue" with. You're a low level shitposter that doesn't belong here.

Go ahead and shitpost at me some more. I won't reply, because you are dull and uninteresting.

the british empire was far more important to world history and global communications than any other empire before it.

The British Empire was a fucking joke
Hell, English didnt even replace French as the lmingua franca until the US became a superpower and started to export their culture en mass after WW2
In 1914 (peak of the British Empire), German diplomats had to adress British ones in fucking French because literally no one spoke English outside of the Empire and the US

Many African states entered totalitarianism or one state parties pretty much immediately though.

Daily reminder the term "Empire upon which the sun never sets" was first used for Spanish Empire, some 3 centuries before British.

muh opium.

british "empire"

We BRITISH are the number one, we ruled Canada against Grizzly BEAR, WE RULED AFRICA against AFRICANS tribes,we RULED Australia against hot temperature desert, we RULED against indian poopers

British had to FACE so many and SO STRONG opponents to conquer Canada, australia africa and India that it's true that the british are the strongest

>what went wrong?

World Wars bankrupted them.

WWI ultimately wasn't worth the colonies and mandates they gained as the treasury was hit especially hard by weapons and ship/vehicle production.

WWII was an absolute death blow to the Imperial economy, with the British strained to their absolute limits trying to fight on the homefront, France, North Africa, Burma, SE Asia, and both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

The British knew that if there were colonial revolts or uprisings against them, they would not be able to suppress it, so they opted for giving their colonies independence and set up the Commonwealth to avoid more money and lives being wasted in colonial wars.

France took the opposite approach in trying to crush their rebellions, which you see the result of in Vietnam and Algeria.

Oppress, kill, enslave, torture people for 200 years and celebrate the fact that they're democratic at the end of it.

more than 200*

Go back to and stay there.

Nothing. Every empire hits its zenith and then heads downhill. Britain did the smart thing and downscaled before it collapsed into a pathetic loser state. Look what happened to Rome, Greece, Persia, Babylon, etc.

Major economy should only be the top 5 economies.

Should've given us representation in Parliament, assholes

immigration is basically outsourcing the role of producing citizens to a cheaper country
