Saw Cleaver exploits a lot of the early game weaknesses, and it's pretty fast. I think the Saw Spear is a bit better, though.
Hunter Axe has tremendous rally and that god-tier tricked mode.
I can't say much about the Threaded Cane considering that I've never used it.

We don't really know where those are in relation to the others.
From Nightmare Frontier you can see Mergo's Loft, and down by Amygdala's room you can see the masts of ships from the Hamlet. The relation between the Hamlet and Hunter's Nightmare is obvious since you travel from one to the other directly.

Cold abyssals are fine to have HP depletes on because they only go up to -4, which means you can slot a pulsing gem into your gun and completely counteract the HP drain. So unless you're a tinge/arc hybrid, they're some of the best gems you can get.

Acceptable curses from Old HMPH are beast/kin, stamina and HP depletes. Or durability down, if you're fine with your weapon breaking if you cough on it.
