/spslgg/ - Space Logistic Sim Games General

The thread is for the discussion of Space Simulation and logistics systems games of all sorts - flight, logistics, design, we'll take it all.

Buzz Aldrin's Race into Space, Orbiter, Space Engine, Universe Sandbox, Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager, (Open)Transport Tycoon, House of the Dying Sun, Rogue System, Children of a Dead Earth, Rodina, and Everspace all welcome.

>Race into Space
Race to the moon between the USSR and US. A management sim that is adapted from a board game, and with an interface that was considered shitty in the 90's, it's still pretty good. Free.
raceintospace.org/

>Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager
Race into Space's younger, slightly worse cousin. Shinier and slightly better interface, though, which might be a selling point for some. It's a Slitherine game - not much else needs to be said.
store.steampowered.com/app/308270/

>Orbiter
The big boy spaceflight game. Simulates lots of real and fictional spacecraft. Absurd numbers of mods to add just about anything you can imagine.
orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/
orbithangar.com/

>Space Engine
Space screenshot maker with an entire procedural universe to fly around. Is supposed to someday get actual gameplay. Free.
en.spaceengine.org/

>Rogue System
DCS in space. In early access, so approach with caution, but seems to be shaping up pretty well so far.
imagespaceinc.com/rogsys/

>Children of a Dead Earth
Claims to be a "Realistic" space combat simulator. Not really true, and some consider the lead dev to be kind of an idiot, but still an interesting project nonetheless.
childrenofadeadearth.wordpress.com/
store.steampowered.com/app/476530

>House of the Dying Sun
Space anime combat villain sim.
store.steampowered.com/app/283160/

>Rodina
Like an itty-bitty No Man's Sky. Lots of exploration in a single solar system. Early Access, so take caution.
store.steampowered.com/app/314230/

>OpenTTD
A transport and logistics systems simulation game. Free Transport Tycoon remake with tons of addons to keep you busy for the rest of forever.
openttd.org/en/

>Project Highrise
Think Simtower with more stripped down gameplay elements. More casual for sure, but still plenty of fun.

Has anyone actually tried CoaDE yet?

Yeah, it's ok. It's a turn-based system, so that might not be so great, and the simulation is a mess right now - the lead dev managed to completely fuck up nukes for the public release, so that they were pretty much useless.

Who /escapevelocity/ here?

Haven't played that in years. Have you tried Endless Sky yet, user?

Actually, should add that to the OP - it's free and open source. Lots of mods and shit.

The UI is absolute garbage, too. It's really cluttered, and all of the graphics are really low-quality programmer art. I even recall hearing that they're storing their texture maps as low-res .png format files right now, which is really, really bad.

How autistic from 0 to spreadsheet simulator is the building editor and battle system?

The battle system isn't all that bad, really. It's realtime, and really hectic, but the editor is pure spreadsheet tactics.

*long thoughtful sigh and memories of what should have been*

Why would you post that ?

;n;

I'm so sorry D:

T-the pain... It's still real.

The editor is locked until you play through more than half the game. Kind of bullshit, desu.

So you do what? Play with already existing designs? Is there a storyline involved?

There's a really badly written plotline, yeah. War between factions after a massive cataclysm forces humanity off of the Earth.

So any hope for the game to become worthwhile in the future?

The lead dev is really full of himself, but between the potential for custom scenarios, and his willingness to update things, it might still have a chance to be pretty fun.

Post creatures?

Aaaa! Don't convince me to reinstall it. Are the servers even still alive?

Pretty sure. Loads of people still making crazy shit with the creature creator and posting it on YouTube.

Hmm tempting. Maybe once I have Internet here at my new apartment until then it would be kinda pointless.

...

Nice thread, but needs more people.

WE NEED SOME ADRENALINE, STAT!

Anyone here has Orbiter? How hard is the learning curve? Is there anything to do other than launching and doing manoeuvres?

f

...

There's a lot of tutorials and operating manuals around. As long as you're willing to read or watch a video, and play along with the tutorial you're watching, it's not really all that difficult.

I'm cool with that but I was wondering if the bulk of the game was learning orbital mechanics to get to space or if you can do something once you are there, like repairing stuff, performing scientific experiments and whatnot

Depends on the module you're looking to use. What kind of missions did you have in mind, user? Stuff like deploying payloads and such is possible, but anything much more complex is, as far as I know, not implemented. You can't, for example, actually use a space telescope or something like that.

It's more akin to something like Microsoft Flight Simulator.

I don't know desu
Something like repair missions or actually assembling something in orbit with the payloads you carry and stuff like that

there's already a space game thread

Orbital assembly is definitely possible.

orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3062
orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3388

These addons, when used in conjunction with something like Payload Manager (kulch.spb.ru/Eng/PM_project.html) allow you to build really complex custom launch vehicles and orbital complexes.

Read the OP. This thread is for space and logistic sims, not space opera meme adventure games.

Oh thanks for that
I'll look into it

>literally two games in that general

>they're trying to claim all the fucking space games on steam, and just shitpost about vaporware and VISION

ded as fug desu

OI
/egg/ claimed chode
Though I can delete it from the OPpad if you want.
Are you guys sure you can survive?

We don't even know the full list of games welcome here yet, we are still trying to find our niche.

We were also discussing about using /cbg/ as an attention grabbing name and include city building games too, as they can't clearly survive on their own.

Ah, good idea.
Also, public.etherpad-mozilla.org
Use that instead of a followup post.
Etherpads are editable by anyone, but you can restore it from previous versions to unfug it is someone's being a cunt.

And you might want to come up with a catchier name.
/egg/ is simple, /egg/ sticks in the mind.
/spslgg/ does not.

Oh, and do some more advertising around autism generals like /egg/ or /mcg/
And maybe /v/ if you can stomach going there.

>mcg
user, are you trying to kill us on day one?

/mcg/ isn't THAT bad.
You'd have to do it at a more autistic hour though, like when people are talking about programming or something.

Suggestions are more than welcome, my only idea so far was /slcbg/ - Space, logistics and city building general, which is not really any more catch than the current name.

/slogg/ for space logistics.
Not sure how you'd incorporate /cbg/ stuff.

It's more about survival and being more than three anons posting about 1/10th of the game list

Then /slogg/ is good.
Pronounceability is key, for one.
Advertise too, there are probably plenty of anons from /cbg/ floating around.

/slg/ - Space & Logistics Sim Games General

Considering how sporadic /cbg/ stuff can be, and how the logistics and management sims for some space games can be, there's quite a bit of crossover there that'll be healthy for keeping this general going.

>Off-topic Discord:
>discord.gg/nUy5x67

Yes, what about the Discord?

It should be removed from the OP next time, it has no place here

Sure it does. It's a place for off-topic chat. If you don't like it, that's your problem. A substantial portion of the people in the thread use it.

>a substantial portion of kspg use it
FTFY
this is no kspg

>kspg
What's that, user? No such thing as that anymore.

>Discord channel literally named kerbal space program general

No it isn't.

You just changed it and it's fine

OP here - I'm literally trying to get this all off the ground in one go - things are a bit dicey here as a result. We're not trying to make another shitposting general or anything, and we're not trying to kill any other generals.

Then why would you include the discord responsible for all of the woes?

stay out of /egg/ you faggots

see
>If you don't like it, that's your problem.

>if you don't like it, ignore the shitposters leaking to other generals
This is (you)
I don't care about the discord. I don't want to use it. I care about the fact that that's where the malicious aspects of space penis were, and that there is nothing stopping them from leaking.
I cannot ignore a threat.
Which is what your shitty discord is.

OP here.
I don't really give a shit either way. Most of the people that wanted to kick this general off are in the discord, but the link isn't really all that necessary. If I end up making the next thread, I'll amend the OP to remove it.

>malicious aspects of space penis
Sounds like a really good band name.

just flying by to see what you think of this childrenofadeadearth.wordpress.com/
it`s a scientifically "correct" spacecombat simulator. Havent seen anything like this before. It still lacks content but i`ve been waiting for this pretty long. (
Reminds me of Kerbal but with less micromanagement)

Read the OP.

Love that game

It's already in the OP, if you look a fee posts above, there is an user discussing about it

space is for fags

Is Factoria welcome here? It's scifi logistic.

I wonder if this general can survive. Looks promising.

modder passing by, what happened to /kspg/ and where can I reach its denizens now?

I think the same but I dont play spess games yet so I cant really contribute.

I'm here. Do talk to me.

>Claims to be a "Realistic" space combat simulator. Not really true, and some consider the lead dev to be kind of an idiot, but still an interesting project nonetheless.

What did he mean by this? Not really true? Could someone explain? I'm also curious what the dev did to seem full of himself.

pls come online

If you play a city building or logistics game like SimCity or Transport Tycoon, feel free to post it!

The simulation lacks a lot of things that quite a few people think are kind of important, like nuclear pumped lasers and stuff like Orion engines and Casaba Howitzers, and the reasons for not including them are pretty inconsistent.
The lead dev is also really self assured, which can (combined with the above,) make them come across like a bit of an asshole.

simulation games are fun

don't die while I'm asleep

red 10

not yet

Kspg is no more

Which NGC object would you fuck?
Is it in the M catalogue?

Should I play CoaDE

DO IT FAGET

It's nice to at least give it a little try.

>being this mad about replying to old posts

What?

ded

Did anyone play Train Fever? They're coming out with a new one, Transport Fever, that seems to be trying to be the spiritual successor to Transport Tycoon. I hope they work on the economy though, because it was stultifyingly basic in Train Fever.

eh.

You can unlock module/ship design in the in-game 'wiki', you can't use your designs in the campaign till you complete it or whenever unlock the chance.

The AI at the moment is trash and doesn't come close to a person and there is no mulitplayer but the ship design isn't too bad. Some things are good and simulated well so you need to take design into account (backing tough brittle armour like metal with something like kevlar to prevent spalling, whipple shields to disintegrate a projectile to allow it to spread over a larger area on the main shield.) but other things are not. To speak of the worst, chemical interactions aren't in (Lithium water pumps, HMWPE flourine tanks, ect) nor is thermal mechanical failure. (Lead gun barrels that don't warp from heat rather it'll just fail when it reaches melting temp)

He says he hasn't included the Orion engines and cassaba Howitzers because he hasn't found "enough" unclassified information regarding the specifications of these systems. Nuclear lasers too, maybe. He doesn't include other things for other reasons which he talks about which are more arguably for his own reasons. (Light gas guns, explosive/nuclear launched projectiles and ram accelerators.)

>The simulation lacks a lot of things that quite a few people think are kind of important, like nuclear pumped lasers and stuff like Orion engines and Casaba Howitzers, and the reasons for not including them are pretty inconsistent.

You going to provide the dev with the fomulae and numbers required to simulate said technologies?
