This is probably the part this annoys me the most about the whole German hate meme on Veeky Forums. It was the Swedes who went to war with everyone and sack all the cities like Prague. The states of what is now Germany suffered a lot during the 30 years war. I think even Donald Trump's ancestor was killed by Swedish soldiers.

Yes, historically France was the most powerful European nation militarily from the 7th century AD up until Napoleon but not really after that. Napoleon was a sort of last hurrah for France and when he failed to secure French domination over Europe French domination over Europe forever failed. And France never recovered from either its demographic crisis in the 19th century or from the unification of Germany, the impact of which cannot be overstated it would be like Atlantis rising from the north Atlantic today and it came with military that was more powerful than the US military.

So by the late 19th century and into the 20th century there were three European superpowers Russia, Germany and the UK. America wasn't a European power and Italy was only a spiritual power by the late 19th century
