Why do automatic transmission cars have 2nd and low gear? Under what circumstances would these be used?

It allows the ability to change down if need be, such as when going up steep gradients or towing things.
Towing things and for when your stuck in snow or mud.
when you're going up a hill?
So you can do mad skidz cunt
Towing, hills, and off-road. I use first in my Jeep often when I'm going down a steep ass driveway. Also came in handy when my fuel pump was dying. Had to keep the revs up going up hills or the car would stall. Pretty useful IMO.
The only time I have legitimately used it was in the winter time when I was going down a steep ass hill trying to prevent myself from going too fast
With old 3 speed plus over drives it makes sense to use it when accelerating, like going around a corner and keeping it in 2nd and not allowing it to shift into 3rd.
This. As I enter a corner I'lol click OD off and sometimes push it down to 2. Otherwise it downshifts and then up shifts again mid corner and upsets the balance of the car.
>upsets the balance of my autotragic
wew lad
Put it to 2 when you want to pass someone going slow.
At high speeds, it's for engine breaking the car (especially the transmission)
>KKKkWWWWWRRRRRKKKK
Car retard here, what exactly does having Overdrive off do? Other than make you slow?
This is what I use it for in my auto
Other way around, over driven gears means the wheels spin more than the engine does, which is used to get good mileage when cruising
When you turn overdrive off, you're limiting the transmission to use gears that'll keep the wheels spinning slower than the engine, which is used to overtake others as well as whatever else people here mentioned
1st is good for traffic, you don't need to brake as much.
Fuck man I got a lot left to learn about cars, ty for info tho
It just disables shifting into your overdrive gear
Rippin' Hektik skidz?
No worries, everyone starts somewhere
going downhill without riding the brakes
over drive meaning changes depending on the car manufacturer i think
>what exactly does having Overdrive off do?
It's like not shifting into 5th on a manual.
Depends on the automaker. My 4runner would rev ridiculously high and never change gears with overdrive off
When you're driving on the downhill of the touge
Seriously
I thought it was to provide engine braking on a steep downhill, not for going up hill
