I wouldn't help someone FIX a car, because you become liable if you make it worse, but a quick jump is fine, pulling over as a witness to an accident is good too.

as far as helping people who are injured in an accident, there are legal protections even if you accidentally kill someone as long as your actions were reasonable with the intent to help. for ems, fire, and some other emergency qualified personnel there is a legal obligation to stop and help depending on local laws
