The bosses are all cheap and pretty much strategy-less yes.

I consider climbing the tower more of a feat than beating any of the bosses.

No. It's just that one hit could take half, all, or double of your health from a boss. Mushrooms helps alleviate any possibility of making a mistake.

You can handle everything with guard+sting. I would only use transparungus on the last boss. I'm just stockpiling it now as I have no need to farm him.
