Why sully the Mercedes name with the GLE, or the BMW name with the X6?
I preferred it too when manufacturers stuck to their own niche but those days are gone.

Other way around. Ford has been trying to knock off the full size Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, and the Velar looks like a smaller Range Rover.

See attached. Range Rover Sport came out before the Ford Explorer, which was a knockoff.
