It may seem strange to Veeky Forums, but I sometimes take a snack or even a meal into the car parked inside my garage. With the radio on it can be comforting to eat.
I use a low-sided box as the tray. It is lined with a little bit of newspaper so it can be reused as only the newspaper gets dripped on. The box comes from those 24-count soda pop cases that are wrapped in plastic. Don't remove all the plastic, but just cut alongside the top edge of the box. That way, the bottom and sides of the box remain covered with the shrink-wrapped plastic. That makes the box physically strong and it lasts for many reuses as long as you have enough newspaper to avoid the cardboard getting soaked.
