>I, some autist on Veeky Forums, know more than the engineers that spent years developing this engine

its thinner than a belt
and looks like two pears and a Fetus

but why 4 chains ?
it follows shape like that's the last part of the engine they designed

dohc

sounds cool as shit, chain makes delicious whining.

t. used to own one

>trying to record a weird interior rattle/screech/whine/dont know what to call it.

also hit a very small pothole that sounded much worse in the recording.

German engineers are pretty much alive to circle jerk themselves. They don't serve any purpose except to jerk each other off. That is how you get bullshit like this.

Japanese engineer would have a zen like solution.

American engineer would just use a pushrod engine making 700hp, but then american bean counter would fuck it up by saving $0.02 an engine by adding a corrosive coolant to it.

Except the timing chain guides typically go around 60k.

You're missing the big problem
>That's the BACK of the engine you retards

>actually thinking that the clanking, whirring wind age noise of a timing chain sounds "good"

Do you think lifter noise and CVT's sound good too?

FfS kill yourself. Belt is better. Less noise.

>As an austistic loser, I have multiple unfounded opinions that are shaped by my own bias as a result of crippling poverty and being an uneducated piece of shit

There is no defense. It's prone to breaking and incredibly expensive and difficult to repair.

jalopnik.com/here-s-why-the-v8-audi-s4-is-an-awful-used-car-1676466510

im not missing the problem

i used to own a b6 s4, i am aware of the tensioner issues.

>Of all the reasons why i sold it, the tensioners wasn't one of them.

It's common sense, more complex designs have more ways to fail.

I already knew it's at the back of the engine
what is the big deal with engine out service
aside from if you have extra faulty parts

>allStagesButtons.jpg
Its a future shitposter being spawned before my eyes.

I wonder if it would be a dick-move to spawn camp him.

>what is the big deal with engine out service
The fact that it's even necessary.

You need to disassemble a lot of the front end to get the motor out.
The parts cost alone cost 3 grand
A dealer will charge you 5 to 10 grand do do this job... on a used car that cost maybe 15 grand at most.

audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/414598-B6-B7-S4-Timing-Chain-FAQ-Information-Discussion-Thread

that's pretty much everything now
aside from some Asian and American cars

$$$ swag lyfe pham

I mean if it was putting out 600+hp NA I could but fuck me how did they manage to only get 400hp out of something the size of a big block is beyond me.

>2011

that shit hasn't been updated.

last i checked it was 1200 for parts, search around audizine a little bit. you'll find it.

the front end is really easy to take off, just as any audi. not an arguement.

most people who have done it at the dealership have been quoted a maximum of 5 grand to do the repair. not 10k.

you're crazy.

That is a big fucking micrometer.

I actually asked my local Audi dealer about the timing chain job. They quoted me $17,500 and claim it needs to be done every 100k miles. Brutal.

nah, that's just an optical illusion, dude

Like issues that were harder to ignore?

>who cares if standard maintenence requires tens of thousands of dollars of specialist equipment

Where did you go to school for mechanical engineering?

if you have to ask

>only the party members deserve cars, the common man must take the bus tovariaisch

you could buy a 800 hp nascar engine for that

Ja, meine Kameraden, es ist am besten, dass du aus der Chaika-Straße bleibst

5K to replace a fucking timing chain is still incredibly dumb.

Why don't you understand zee maintnance?

He's full of shit. Through a dealer, the job is absolutely going to be north of $10k.

Source?

I actually asked my dealer.

I'm willing to assume you could get it done for $5K somewhere, if not the dealer. But how much is the car even worth? Like $8K? Just seems like a retarded design.

>I'm willing to assume you could get it done for $5K somewhere
I have no idea how much an indie shop would charge. Point is that guy claimed it was $5k through the dealer. That's nonsense.

>But how much is the car even worth? Like $8K?
What car? Multiple models use this engine.

only the B6/B7/Q7 had the timing chain guide issue.

the v8 fsi in the RS4, S5, RS5, A6 , A8 and R8 does not suffer from this problem.

I have warranty.

and when the warranty goes, the car goes. Problem?

>What car? Multiple models use this engine.
I just assumed we were talking about the B6 S4.

V8 S5's are free of timing chain issues? I wasn't aware the 4.2 went through any changes.

People like you are the problem.

You sure the A8, A6 and S5 had the high-rev/RS (trouble-free) version?

I thought the S5 was trouble and the RS5 was okay? Can anyone confirm that 4.2 S5 has no timing chain issues?

Yeah that's what I thought too. All the RS cars have the high-rev version of the engine, which uses slightly different components and doesn't suffer from the timing chain issues as a result.
Since the S5 is pretty much supposed to be an S4 coupe I assume it's got the same engine and the same problems.

I would seriously think about getting a V8 S5 if there's no timing chain issues. I don't give a shit that it has piss-poor MPG's and slower than 3.0T

This is sadly accurate.

Jezus fucking christ on a stick dude, this post is so fucking dense samefagging included.

You should go out and take a walk, get some fresh air you frustrated neckbeard
