To start off, I am getting rid of my Lamin-x type "golden yellow" film and spraying on some Krylon stained glass yellow to make a superior selective yellow lamp. I got tired of the GT look in bright sun, it doesn't mesh well with ambers black pearl metallic paint.
Pics related use Krylon, it looks very deep and consistent.
Got a question for all you guys. Cloth or leather seats, which do you prefer?
I have leather but I would love some alcantra & M-Rain cloth seats
Damn so would I. I've just been wondering about it lately. I love cloth since it grips nicely on corners and is temperate but also like leather for muh luxury.
Well my ABS light turned off 4 days ago and hasn't come back on, minor victory I guess.
My check engine light turned off a few days ago and hasn't come back on.
But that's because I pulled the bulb loose. I don't know how my mechanic broke my oxygen sims by running the obdii scanner but he managed to. I finally got sick of it.
Next I'll pull my ASC light.
lol I just assumed my bulb burnt out, but it lights up when I start the car.
>broke my oxygen sims by running the obdii scanner
Is this even possible?
on my 540, finished valve cover gasket + upper timing cover gasket + vanos solenoid gaskets job last weekend. Much more annoying than i thought it would be but a good practice run for the timing chain guides. FUCK this 32mm axle nut from advance auto, its way too big and makes the vanos solenoids impossible to screw back in. just drop the $30 on the bmw special tool super thin wall socket
my zionsville fan shroud + aluminum coolant expansion tank arrives on wednesday, along with an 88c thermostat which will make the car run at least 10C cooler on average which is great.
>also PSA to e39 fags, the aux electrical fan is more than powerful enough to cool the car on its own, ditch the shitty mechanical fan its a waste of engine bay space
They worked for many months since install and all I had done was a belt/pulley, giubo, and severed header stud replaced.
He ran the scanner shortly before I picked it up and then the CEL came on for those sensors, he cleared it and it came back on again immediately.
I am assuming it reset something and now I need to put the cats back on for a bit and then switch it back out again. But I really don't want to bother swapping it and risking severing more of those old studs for a light.
I see him at Cars and Coffee each weekend so maybe I'll ask if he thinks that will work.
Managed to destroy the transmission of my 530 V8, slips like mad.
Think I could just buy another 5HP18 off a 325iA, swap the torque converter and slap it in?

I haven't posted in 20 years, but I have a low and loud e46.
lol wassup boys
Kind of want an e46 boys is it a good DD? also considering an e92 coupe
ayy wassup D
tfw want to buy an 8 to match muh M3
Anyone? I seriously don't want to send this one to be rebuilt as the rebuilding would cost more than the car was worth.
Last 3 cars are:
e46 330d
e36 328i (m50 swap -230bhp)
z3 2.8
Realstic for me to be able to afford an E39 M5 toward the end of this year.
How much faster will it feel than those.
Excite me /bmw/
Bimmerfest is just around the corner. Still got $2500 that I've spent for my car but most of the shit won't be here in time.
>dad buys a 2008 328i on ebay for 7k with 75,000 miles
>flies to seller and drives it home
>stalled a few times on the way home (automatic)
>bought a carfax after he got home
>car actually had 190,000 miles but someone rolled it back
I've never pitied my father so much in my life. I don't know what to tell him. I have no idea why he didnt buy a carfax before he bought a car online, or take it to some mechanic before handing over the check.
He thinks he can take this guy to court on the grounds of taking advantage of the elderly.
He's fucked, right?
Rolling back the speedo is a huge crime
Take him to court but lawyer up
waddup my mans
im going to have a real job in like a year, hows that m3 treating you? Ive always wanted one.
my 328 has 215 thousand miles and runs pretty top notch. Former owner put a lot of work into it though.
roll back is illegal man, and also you should really vin check anything that isn't a total piece of shit just to make sure it isn't a piece of shit. if he bought it on ebay i think you have some kind of buyer protection too
my GF's coupe
Just did some bodywork - replaced both front fenders, fixed some rust, needs a new bumper and it will be slightly lowered
Yeah it's a manual
It's great I bought it with the intention to replace the everything. For the most part it was all cheap and easy to do
Wheelz for the 46 when yo?
I have cloth in the front now (bought some Recaros and haven't had them upholstered yet), I cloth 100x more but it will be much easier to redo the front seats in leather than redo the entire entire in cloth
i haven't followed your shitposting in a while did you finally buy a 8 series?
There's some preruined ones up here, will save you some of the work
sacramento.craigslist.org
There was a red 850ci in Sac for sale that had Brides and a bunch of other aftermarket garbage, must of sold though not seeing it anymore, I think it was up for 5k
Nah an old 6er popped up that I couldn't pass up on. Just finishing up the Euro bumper conversion in the rear, going to start prepping it next week, aiming to paint by end of June
Both. Cloth inserts are definitely the way to go on BMW
are those basic seats with vader headrests? wtf
No they are sport seats wih vader headrests.
When you are 6'3 and enjoy driving for long periods of time, Vaders are the most absolutely trash seats there are. This way you get all the comfort of the Sports and all the upper body support of the Vaders.
Picked up my tires this weekend as my wheels should finally be shipping this week. 275/35/18 and 255/35/18. I'm definitely going to need at least 2.5 degrees of camber up front and maybe roll the fenders too. The 1 series just doesn't like big meats ;_;
So I'm taking my E30 to the track in early june and I'm doing all the prepwork now.
So far I've done; oil/filter, clean ICV, adjust throttle cable, brake fluid, new tie rods and alignment. Got brakes and a new shift knob+adapter (oem inner clip has given up on life) coming in today. Tires are already here just waiting for my friend to mount them for me.
And I was thinking since I have the comfort seats, maybe I should try and upgrade to something else. I can hold myself in place fairly well in my autox like that. Can't really afford to drop $300+ on decent 'racing' seats. Any cheaper good seats with bolstering I can find at a junkyard, or maybe used for super cheap?
I have a welder and spare metal so i could prob make a bracket
Aside from the wheels and stickers it's not so bad
It ain't red tho
What wheels / offset?
Been wanting those Schnitzer wheels to match my Steering wheel but found out today they are about $3k really debating on getting the same ones but as a solid block rather than a 2/3 piece
Dont let your dreams be memes dude buy the wheels you want even if you have to save up a bit
At least the wheels won't depreciate in value
There's this one but the guys price is delusional
sfbay.craigslist.org
How did you manage to do that?
Yeah that's a bit much
Not a fan of the super low mileage meme, they're typically worse off than a driven as intended example
Red and around ~15k, I'd be tempted as fugg
Checks all your boxes
losangeles.craigslist.org
I still think that's way too high for an i, and still at the top end for a ci.
Damn that's actually not a bad deal at all given it's mint as described
Honestly I wouldn't even mind an 840, I just think the body style is super rad.
A later model would be nice to at least get the 5AT, god the manual 8s are expensive.
I was looking harder for an 840 than an 850, I would have been fine with either but the 840s make better regular drivers, the V12 doesn't really add much substance imo. I don't think the auto is a big downside, though they aren't the best and often weren't properly maintained.
Old 530 with 350k on the clock and some hektik skidz at a parking lot.
not really sure what wheels to get. was thinking borbet a but having troubles finding them
>sfbay.craigslist.org
That one sold on ebay last week for $24 k. So his price wasn't that far off.
>losangeles.craigslist.org
That one is on ebay too. 14 hours left.
Tint or no?

Hopeful buyer, there's plenty of nearly that good examples going for half that
Gs400guys chance, only 10k atm
No
My dilemma - spoiler or no?
>My dilemma - spoiler or no?
I really like the spoiler on the car now. It's pretty low profile and the extra black trim helps to add some shape to the white deck.
Keep it.
89 bids and a half dozen bidders over $15 k. Three over $20 k. Sounds like there is some demand there. I'd like to see these examples going for half that thanks.
That isn't my car, just the same bumpers to give a sense of what it would look like, I'll have to track one down if I want to put one on
Very few 850is even go past 10k

Dodgy Quebec car and not red but an 850 for $15k CAD
autotrader.ca
So where are these perfectly good examples nearly as good going for half price?
How do those sold listings not qualify, they didn't have the original manual?
The laguna green is well known. It was neglected to the point where it has both rust and functional issues (note repair work). The black is nearly three times as much mileage, doesn't have a chip, racing brakes, nor the aftermarket shocks the ebay red does.
My 30k mile 850i.
My black 60k mile.
That's right sparkie, a euro spec 3.0.
>aftermarket parts
>adding value
Well at least we see now why you have a horse in this imaginary race. Mileage is mostly meaningless, a 30 year old car that has only had 1k miles a year on it is going to have it's own set of issues. The first red one was clean but 24k is ridiculous, the very similar example that's up for another few hours will sell for half.
Its not similar and neither are the sellers. Twice the miles and 90% feedback. But by all means any time you can show me a low k mile well kept e31 for half the price of that ebay one, feel free. Still waiting.
Manual everything, windows, sunroof and transmission. (90 k miles)
Replaced my Oil Filter Housing Gasket on Thursday, today I got the symptoms for a dead alternator.
FeelsBMWMan.png
I know that feel senpai, my 750 is still waiting to get fixed. Here's some flywheel for you.
And here's the ZF 5HP30
Is that a fucking 2JZ swapped E46?
bmw doesnt make alternators
your problem is with bosch
I know of several 2JZ E36s, I am sure it would not be too different for an E46.
>stretched tires and ride height so low handling is ruined
ah look the turbo plebs are here.
Oh wow a boring played out engine swap in a gaudy car
Exactly my point, why the fuck would they stick one of the most unimaginative engines in an E46 of all things. Even an LS would be more interesting
For as much time as I spent on /p/ over the years I sure do suck at taking pictures of my car. Or any car for that matter.
So on my E46 330i 6 speed i had the shifter bushings and rod replaced. But now the shifter isnt in the right position. The whole pattern is offset to the right. 1st is where 3rd was, 3rd is inbetween where 3rd and 5th were. and 5th is slightly to the right of its normal position. Same thing mirrored for 2nd, 4th and 6th. What could possibly be wrong?
225 on 8.5 & 245 on 9 isn't really stretched lol
I can go over speed bumps and shit perfectly straight
That thing is a beauty
>/p/
Found your problem
>E46
get off my /bmw/
Literally APEX arc-8 with 18x9.5 ET58 rear and 18x8.5 ET38 in the front. Same as you I bet.
Lets be honest. Thats a bit stretched. Not much but still a bitm. 245 for the 8.5 and 255 for the 9 are what you would want.
Also you going to bummerfest?
what shift knob do you guys like to use?
also E30 guys; how much of a difference does a DSSR make?
>225 on 8.5 & 245 on 9 isn't really stretched lol
First of all, 225 tires are not necessarily 225mm wide, it depends on the manufacturer. Secondly, yes they're fucking stretched you retard, because they are VISIBLY stretched
who cares if they are stretch a little it's obviously just a street car.
>what shift knob do you guys like to use?
Stock or tall weighted plastic/wood. Dildo shifters are for vape sucking faggots, metal shift knobs are retard-tier for summer driven cars.
>also E30 guys; how much of a difference does a DSSR make?
ZERO difference. The stock linkage on an E30 is plenty stiff and should NEVER be under enough torsion to deflect it noticeably unless you're side-loading it while in gear.
If your bushings are all replaced and you still have shifter slop, I have bad news; It's the transmission. The getrag 2XX series transmissions are notorious for internal shift mechanism slop. If you have one on the ground with no shift mechanism you can demonstrate this by putting it in gear and seeing that you can still rotate the internal shift rod a little bit with a screwdriver. This tiny movement translates over the arm of the linkage to easily a half-inch or so in either direction with a stock height shifter.
>background more interesting than the car and in focus
>watermark as if actually a decent photographer with pics someone would steal
lel
git gud scrub
>Stock or tall weighted plastic/wood. Dildo shifters are for vape sucking faggots, metal shift knobs are retard-tier for summer driven cars.
>tfw just got a tall weighted metal one
>tfw texas also, but to be fair i really only drive this car to autox, gym, farm roads, and soon track
It feels pretty good to be honest. would like to get the condor one at some point. it think it's on a z3 short shifter
The trans feels pretty precise most of the time, and I was kinda trying to think of what mod next and was leaning towards motor+trans mounts from garagistics, but everyone on e30 forums claiming dssr is gud.
I'm hoping my g260 will last until I can afford the m50/52 swap and get a newer bmw trans.
Got hawk pads waiting to be installed.
Like they always say
Chrome will get you home
Wood will get you good
how bullshit is BMW's "lifetime fill"? I'm doing oil and pads/rotors over the weekend and am wondering when I need to do brake/clutch/coolant. Car was maintained at the dealer up to 85k, I've DIYed through 115k.
oh yeah, 2007 e93 328i
How are newer BMW diesels with the emissions shit? Do the engines still run forever?
An M5x swap costs less than $1k. At the absolutely retarded most. And at $1k you could get a parts car and part it out and make back at least half your money...
parts car is the plan once i have more space. currently trying to get rid of the vert i used for a manual swap
moine
Lifetime fluid is a couple of years or roughly the warranty of the car. It lasts beyond the warranty of course but it's by no means lifetime.
Pretty much as big as I can go with this offset wheel without molesting my fenders
Why you so maf doe dude
I didn't take the picture man relax
Help me /bmw/. Decided I want a bmw. I can go up to 20k. What's the most car I can get? I care about looks, luxury, and gas mileage. Not interested in racing. Saw a 2013 328I near me for 19500.
> complicating things is that I dont like the generic look of newer models. I like that old boxy look. But I dont want to buy a pile of miles that will require work.
Thoughts?
335i
hard to find a good gas mileage bmw. Go with an e92 335i with low miles and you still have a rainy day fund for when it spills oil
Get a diesel if you're worried about gas mileage.
