They're affordable kinda comfy barges with a big v8 and enough power to feel good at stoplights and pass people on the freeway. Yes, it totally makes sense that frequently disengaging the engine from the drivetrain so that you keep it somewhat in the same neighbourhood as the peak power speed in a few arbitrary road speeds would be faster than keeping the engine constantly engaged and running at the optimum speed all the time.
