What is the western equivalent of AE86?

Something that hide its powerlevel behind the small, meek, unassuming look

>Capable of outclassing more powerful cars on the toe-gay

the BMW name is too attached to performance vehicles that it doesn't have the same sleeper factor that crusty old toyota has

A diesel BMW is the car of a hillbilly redneck in Europe.

I guess I see things differently as an American. We don't import the shitbox BMWs

Fox body Mustang

Yes you do. You just pay premium for it. Like we pay for your mustangs and camaros.

c63 wagon w204

Golf GTR?

VW hatchbacks are definitely boyracer tier.

"normal" hatchbacks are crap like the Nissan versa.

Clio RS. Looks like a regular Clio but 182hp.

this

More like German Civic Type R

Are all Trueno owners autistic? Don't think I've ever seen the picture of one without tofu stickers.

Levin (hell even AE85) are pretty autistic too

Basically, this. Especially the 318ti since it has a weird, crooked 4A-GE.

Opel Kadett E GSi.

Shingo, pls go.

RACE was right, Foxbody's JDM equivalent is the Silvia, because it's more of an equivalent role.

With regards to the 86, I would say a Fiero would probably be similar, i.e. a mediocre car that becomes a pretty good performer if you tune it right

But it came out in the west

Beat me to it

Miata in all fields

The 86 isn't fast.

This or a mark 2 escort for europe.

What is there to hide? A solid rear axle and low stock hp?

Too bad there are no companies making japanese aluminum replicas like there are for muscle cars.

WTF are you me? I literally just got my fathers 110r back form the workshop. Fun to drive, but definitely not able to drift. Also it's 1 generation older - I was unironically thinking about getting pic rel, tuning it with some 130RS kit and driving through Sudetes to eurobeat blastin from a tesla audio

Toyota Corolla GT/GTS

What power level, OP? They're not powerful cars. They're reliable, good handling, sporty economy cars.

I'd say the only two that come close are the Foxbody Mustang and the BMW E30. Both could be had with 4-cylinder engines and have great potential and a lot of aftermarket just like the AE86. They can both be drift and track cars. They could both previously be had for cheap. The Foxbody still can, but the E30 is definitely going up. Both of them do not look like anything special just like the AE86.

The people in here with correct answers.

So what? An E36 Compact or even a regular E36 does not like a performance beast. They look like regular cars.

why is there always at least one initial D thread on the frontpage of Veeky Forums

it's pathetic

>Anything but the Peugeot 406
It's not RWD but it fits.

Awwwww yeeeeaaaa

The police here had theirs tuned for 170mph, sold them all off for £5k after 5 years, a boy racer bought one, lost control and killed a kid. The press then campaigned for ex cop cars to get crushed. Cunts.

Mustang SVO

>lightweight
>box styling

>liftback

I'd love to swap an Ecoboost into one

underrated post

So if a foxbody is the US equivalent to the ae86 then how would you tune a foxbody to take on an ae86 in a downhill race?

the thunderbirds came with a 4 cylinder too, I also think it was turbo-charged

the lastime this thread was posted *ugh*, i think I recall someone saying there was a 4door foxbody that was made for police cars (maybe it was australian)

AMC Spirit.

>panel gap between top of hood and front body panels
>uneven curve of hood and retractable headlight covers

>dual tailpipe exhaust for what was clearly designed for one as seen in the notch above the tailpipes

>enourmous panel gap between lower part of hood and bodel panels/headlights

>distastefully lowered and slapped on mods, decals, and other bullshit, also tons of damage to body panels

>hood panel gap, terrible paint color, missing grille, damaged body

>hood and retractable headlights don't line up

>panel gap between hood and front body panel

>passable but only because you can only see the back

>not taken care of, distastefully lowered

>if you wanna stay tonight, I'm gonna spend my time with you again

These AE86s don't have a very good track record of actually being good cars.

The Ford Fairmont. We got them in North America.

The T-Bird turbo coupe was similar, just larger. The SVO is almost as small as the Hachiroku.

what do you mean by that user?

Mah nigga.
Year correct
Drivetrain correct
Solid axle correct
Front suspension correct.
Body correct
That is the most correct answer in this thread. No argument.

This is the 100th time I've seen this thread.

One user once offered the Olds Cutlass 442 as an answer and I liked it so I repeat it.

kill yourself.

>20-50k

I know which one I'd go for.

Ford LTD (not the first gen crown Vic) was a good body, and could be optioned with the mustang 5.0 block. I think it was late seventies to about 84.

i have the 318is i love it

Definitely and old Chrysler turbo sedan of some kind.

The AE86's half brother.

Why the fuck are compacts all the sudden getting so much love?

Holy shit this is so true. I know a drug user who lives on a boat and mysteriously has a modern gray diesel BMW. He always gives people free food he finds in the dumpster outside the local supermarket.

So yeah...

Diesel BMW's
