In my state you've gotta pay sales tax, registration, and title transfer fees even if you buy a bike from a private party.

yes. if there's nothing obviously wrong with it honda made fantastic bikes through the 80s. you won't feel too badly if you drop it and as long as you don't totally trash it you should be able to get close to what you paid for it if you decide to upgrade
