Importing Cars

So I the rice from you guys is making me want to buy a JDM for a DD.

Looking at Silvias and R32s.
One thing I've noticed is that buying one from an importer in Japan seems to be a few grand cheaper than buying one from an importer who has stock stateside.

Is there a reason for this, and is it a good idea to buy like this?

The R32 GTR seems much cheaper having it shipped yourself.

Also whats with US importers listing cars newer than 1992?

noone has experience with imports/importing?

Driving an R32 daily is monumentally stupid.

You are a fucking idiot for asking the questions you are. Go slink back into whatever corner you came out of, nobody wants to deal with your retardation.

>monumentally stupid
>no reason given
What's it like to buy a car and never use it?

I actually know someone who dailys a r32 in southern california. Stop talking out of your ass. DD a car from that year is obviously going to have a few problems until they get sorted out.

oh look, OP is entirely too dumb to fathom having a weekend car.

>owning a weekend car
Ok, boomer.

i am in the process of importing an R32 GTR from a stateside importer.

The reason why the cars seem cheaper buying from a japanese exporter is because all they do is take the car to port and throw it on a boat. the rest is up to you.
The extra cost goes to the stateside importer picking the car up, shipping the car to their dealership, doing all the paperwork, getting a valid state title, and plating it. Most stateside importers also fully detail the car, change all fluids, new sparkplugs, filters, and anything else the car might need.

TLDR: yeah buying from japan-partner might seem cheap but all they do is stick the car on a boat. they dont do any of the paperwork to legalize the car

pic related my 1989 R32 GTR

>Also whats with US importers listing cars newer than 1992?

don't worry about it.

anyone can daily a non-GTR R32

its not unreasonable

but DDing a R32 GT-R... stupid unless you have lots of cash to throw away on it

Yea the GTR was the one I noticed the biggest difference.

Mostly looking for a GTS-4 with a turbo added.

What i did was call a bunch of different stateside importers and told them my budget and what i wanted. Turns out one of them was in the process of shipping over that Black 32 GTR, and it hit all the marks of what i was looking for so i put a deposit down on it. Should be ready to go in 6 weeks.

Not OP, but what do you do if a part breaks? You know , since the care is an import?

Are you just stuck without driving it until the part is ordered if it's a mechanical component?

How much is it costing your gank account?

Japanparts.com or rhdjapan.com

I also talked to my local nissan dealership and was told that if i can supply the part number they can order it. I have an english translated version of the shop manual as well.

$26000 assuming the car isn't a piece when it arrives. if it is i get my deposit back and go back to the drawing board.

HOLY FUCK, 26K FOR THAT?!

you are getting screwed

>screwed
From what I've seen a lot of R32 GTRs go for >$30k if they're already stateside.

not at all, it's an extremely clean relatively stock example with only 44,000 miles. jdmautoimports has a car in similar condition with more mileage for $34900. International vehicle importers has a 32 GTR with front end damage for $26995

JDM is expensive nigga

>implying its worth that much because people are stupid enough to pay that much

we are talking about an antique nissan, with no used/junk parts availability, slow by modern standards. with out the memes it is a $5k car.

>no used/junk
theres plenty available?
it's expensive for the same reason muscle cars are expensive when in good condition.
they aren't shitboxes

>no parts availability

thedrive.com/news/9713/nismo-to-make-nissan-r32-gtr-oem-replacement-parts

>they aren't shitboxes
just look at that premium sports car interior!

Aren't you worried about odometer rollback? I'm not hating, but I just want to know how would you verify such records and care of the car.

>theres only premium and shitbox
thing was literally a beast back in the day.

Also have to factor in the cost of finding one, detitling it, inspecting it, shipping it, fixing issues, titling/registering it, then finally buying it.
People in nipland dont drive as much.

>e30 m3's sell for $80,000

how does this make you feel?

the mileage was verified through its shaken paperwork.

Hey man...

Aren't you worried about driving manual from the "passenger" seat? I feel like I would have to learn it all over again in a RHD car lol

You *could* daily it, but you'd be much better off with a cheap shitbox for that and keeping the R32 in the garage for weekend duty. They're not cheap cars to maintain and adding a ton of miles will make it even worse.

To add to this, if you aren't getting a GTR then dailying it is much more doable. Nobody cares if you smash up a non-GTR and they're cheaper to own.

the shift pattern and pedal layout is the same. the only difference is the view. though a buddy of mine imported a GTS-T and spent a week punching the door trying to shift with his right hand. The only thing you have to really watch is lane positioning.

True, but I plan to live in an apartment whenever I can finally find a damn full time job.

>I am a mouth breathing retard

>he doesn't have at least a DD and a project car
dumb baitposter

isn't that more or less the going rate for R32 GT-Rs in the US?

>project car
>weekend car
pick one

Yes. Keep those market prices high.

what?

user paying 26K for an early BNR32, when the 1992 (available this year) models had the revised crank collar to help with the oil pump issues the early models have.

Glad to see things like this happen, especially if I ever need to sell mine.

Why a Silvia or R32? Did you do a lot of research before arriving at this decision?
Most popular JDM vehicles should be fine for parts availability due to the idiots who crash them and sell for parts and the dozens of import vendors, but I would do some additional research to pick one with a good history of reliability with high mileage.

t. Impreza owner with 200k miles with only a timing belt and radiator change

the prices are never going to go down.
32s are going to continue to go up until they hit supra levels.

Besides, N1 pump is $350, and billet gears are $500. that solves the oil pump issue. the revised crank models still shatter the gears because the gears are made of sintered metal.

Why do people buy most of the cars they want?
Because they like them.
I like how they look, and they're cars with legacies.

Other things I've looked into are various US versions of Nissans, Acuras, and Hondas.

Fair enough. I would look up common problems with the model you want and immediately set aside money for repairs then. Owners forums are your friend.

Thanks user.

I've never heard of those models being unreliable either. As long as they were taken care of most of them should be fine, hell most have

so you know the oil pump is an engine out job then

Yep, which will make it convenient to add 1mm oil head restrictor to solve the pooling in the head issue, as well as adding a sump baffle.

cool. well, enjoy it, and again thanks for keeping that market up

not buying them won't make the price drop.
even if everyone stopped, theyd stop importing them, then the ones that stick around would just be show pieces

listen here fagola, if you don't stop being an insufferable cunt I will find your precious R32 and drop a 13B into it. You have been warned.

what am i supposed to do? not buy my dream car?

i understand you were able to pay $11000 or whatever for yours. props. i don't have that luxury, and even if i did those days are over. the price i paid for the car includes having someone fly to japan, ensure the vehicle isnt' a rusty piece of shit, fly back, have the car shipped over, have it go through customs, get it off the boat in america, shipped to their warehouse, all the paperwork taken care of, and to have it mildly restored. Maybe you see an issue with that but i dont. Like i said previously in the thread, all things considered i got a deal.

No balls

No nigga, maybe I didn't say it right. Seriously, congrats on buying the thing. I'm just thanking you for buying it at the price you did. I understand that I was lucky enough to buy mine like I did, but I also see these cars sell for low $20k all over forums and FB pages

>falling for the GTR meme

should have both a rwd rb20 and dropped an rb25 neo in there

This is something I wish I had done now

>RWD meme over AWD meme

>should have bought a rwd rb20 n/a r32*

just use your imagination, if you belive it hard enough, it sends power to the front wheels 5% of the time!!

I don't see the problem. It's about twice what they cost here a few years ago but not a lot more than they are now. Considering it has to go around the globe and be hit with fees the whole way the price seems reasonable. I just hope you know they aren't cheap to own. If you know that already though you'll have a good time.

5%?

it only puts power to the front wheels when it detects wheelspin and then only under acceleration.

didn't know that.
Wouldn't it be useful for wet and winter? (plan on moving to Seattle eventually)

just get winter tires

also you are not even going to togue it on the rain so stop falling for the meme

Ah my bad, didnt mean to get salty. now i see where you are coming from. Thanks though. I really am stoked. I grew up with pictures of the Calsonic R32 and Mclaren F1 on my walls. Atleast i will own one of them.

Yeah i am aware. I dont want a high hp monster, my goal is a reliably quick track day/sunday morning car. I am trying to build a modlist that maximizes reliability. The first issues im going to tackle are the oil system and turbos - luckily the car i am buying has already had cooling upgrades.

please dont put these cars through wet wintery conditions. there are already enough rustbucket 32s in the world.

>dont buy the thing you want
who said anything about togue?
its just nice to have more traction

>When you are mad jelly you don't have the money or the balls to get a nice JDM to drift and touge with, so you start shitposting.
Must be hard being you.

Thats what the R32 GTR normally goes for
24-27k depending on condition and milage

But seriously, I'm lazy, willfully ignorant, and I live in the USA. I just want to throw a bunch of money at a company and get an R32 GT-R shipped to me, or I can pick it up.
What are my best options?

who are you buying from?

Nissan Laurel owner here.

RB engines are great if you keep the boost low.

don't be mad the best your life will ever get now is v6 because you blew up a bolt-on turbo on your cuckbox Honda and work min-wage lmfao get fucked bitch

where are you?

this is in Richmond VA

and these people are from Canada are based in Japan

they also have a youtube channel, just lookup their name

and the hp logic in Florida

You're behind the times. That is the going price and it's only going to get higher as time passes. Anybody who thinks R33s and R34s becoming US legal will lower the R32 prices is a retard. There is a finite supply, which is demanded the world over. Lots of these cars are modded beyond help, and "good" examples have been picked over. There are even fewer R33s and 34s and many of them have been modded into ruin too. The good ones will go through the roof in price. You will easily see 6 figure R34s in 2024-2025.

Poor people who want something badly always cry about price in the impotent false hope that their words will somehow magically lower prices. The only hope you have if you're a poor and want an R32/33/34 GT-R, is to stop being poor. That's just the honest truth of the matter.

When did he say he'll daily drive it? Fucking retard

>6 weeks
That would kill me to wait that long
also
that nissan badge isnt in the right spot, need more lower

>Another poor, desperately trying to wish prices lower so he doesn't have to only buy them in GT6 anymore.

Sucks for you.

He said dd? Idiot

Six figure r34's are already a thing. Want a stock mellenium jade low mileage vspec nur? I cant imagine what its going to be like once they become eligible for us import.

A simple interior like that is what actual drivers want nowadays, go back to the bus kiddo

BUT MY DADS ACURA MDX HAS A TV SCREEN IN IT THAT ONLY NEEDS TO RESYNC TO MY PHONE 3 TIMES OER DRIVE TO PLAY MP3S WHEN HE DROPS ME OFF AT THE MALL BRO LET ME TELL YLU ABOUT CARS AND PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL TO REVERSE

well that's the vspec GTR which always go for double what the regular GTR costs

Coworker DDs an R32 with a SR20.

He loves it but shit always breaks, annoying parts (ie: headlight bulbs are JDM and need to come from japan). Bad MPGs poor reliability and it's not exactly fast. With his SR20 it's slower than my J30 accord in a straight line.

Driver Motorsports.

I know i am dying. Its going to be worth the wait. Ive been saving up for a year now, and watching auctions and import websites since 2015. Since you mention the nissan badge, they mustve been applied by hand, because i have seen variability in their location. always in the upper left corner, but some are high, and some are low.

I would hesitate with japanese classics. the general consensus within the skyline community is they grew too big too fast. look up the story about the AH3 skyline with a garden hose used as an oil catch can line.

yeah the badges cost $100 so people steal them and some just take them off and sell them, sadly i had to buy one as well from nissan

damn, i never thought about that. hopefully i dont have that issue in america.

Missouri

Yeah, this is why i saved up as quick as i could to get a 32. I think that they are going to continue to rise until they hit supra levels. 50-60k. i think the 33s will start off a little above supra levels when they are legal, then continue to rise like the 32s have. the 34s are already in the 6 figure range, i saw one at auction last week sell for 17 million yen. i believe it was a Nur model though.

I remember back in early 2015 when montu motors had a Nismo R32 GTR for 20k. those days are long gone. Or when Doug Demaro bought his 33k original mileage GTR for 21k. That was only last year. You can go back and still see that ad on japanese classics.

Are Americans waiting to import earlier gen Evos too or are they less popular?

j classics is good for lesser known cars but yeah they pull some sketch shit on anything that resembles a skyline or silvia or anything supra related but that is kinda how it is in general desu

fortmyers.craigslist.org/chl/cto/d/nissan-skyline-rhd-awd-twin/6211069532.html This is too good to be true

I know Driver Motorsports has 2 silver R32 GTRs in Japan right now waiting to come over. I believe both are mostly stock. When i called them and talked to them about buying a GTR he told me about those 2 silver ones and the black one. Silver is about the only color i would not want on a GTR, so i inquired about the black one and thats the one i fell in love with and put a deposit on.

I should edit to add, Driver Motorsports is located in Virginia. If you want to really overpay, international vehicle importers has quite a selection, but their cheaper offerings seem sketchy. one has front end damage, and the other one has a tampered blue frame number tag.

nobody imports evos and the closest youll see are those import only subaru engines

None would be legal yet. Evo I were late 1992. I imagine people would want III-VI.

Nice, I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Did they ever make a 4 door R32-R34 GTR?

There was a 4 door R33 GTR but its really, REALLY rare

There were some 4 door R33 GTR but they're pretty rare.

>headlight bulbs are JDM and need to come from japan
Nigga what. If he has projectors they're HC3 bulbs

b-pro.ca/product/1992-nissan-skyline-r32-gt-r-74938-km/

JDM Subaru is cheap in Canada. Cheaper than the USDM models, better taken care of, and almost always cleaner and no rust.

Thats normal for the GT-R

does anyone import the 70s escorts? like the RS1600 and shit
