A bad rod, depending on what happened, means you'll at least be pulling one piston. But it's probably not a best case scenario and it would likely be better just to shotgun an engine at it. The thing's a shiny boat anchor, pretty much.

Spun rod bearing? New crank, at least one new rod, new bearings for the whole engine to be on the safe side- Broken rod? Like snapped in half? Engine is junk and it would be cheaper getting a completely new takeout engine than trying to fix that one.

Not a z person, but like the others have said, new engine most likely, that's a high price for a car that you'd have to trailer away, if you can get him below 4k I'd do it, depending on how the interior looks.
