What to see on a US roadtrip in East-Mid US? taking in all suggestions!
Planning my second roadtrip to US, did one last June in the western US starting from LA, this time around we will start from Miami. Going in June once again, plane tickets already booked for 2.6 - 23.6

Main stops for us will be as follows; Miami - Dallas - Chicago- Detroit - Toronto - NYC - DC - Miami
In between the main destinations we will travel freely, checking out points of interest along the way without much preplanning

Any suggestions of cool locations to visit / see along this route? we especially like nature, mountains, etc.
And if it makes any difference, we are snowniggers from Finland

why on earth would you spend all that time driving to and from dallas ? just go up the east coast and then to canada and maybe end in chicago.

road trips are fuckign dumb anyway enjoy being stuck in a car for 8 hours a day

Because we have time? dallas is not really imporant, it's just a waypoint to make a good sized roadtrip.

and thats quite obvious, we did similar trip last year in the west

lol youve picked the trashiest cities in the entire united states. why not just do cali, ocean coast highway is a dream

Avoid Chicago and Detroit like the plague.

already been in cali on last years roadtrip, but the point really is to visit cool places in between these "main waypoints", and im asking for suggestions

What kind of rental did you choose?

Havent decided yet, last year we have a nissan rogue for driving across 7 states, and camaro for couple days in LA

Thinking of a F150 / silverado for a authentic american experience, specially since we will be driving thru great states like Alabama and Texas. Second option is a fullsize V8 SUV

Cruise the Florida keys

looks cool, will definatley go there

West Michigan is nice and Lake Michigan might be neat. If you make it to Silver Lake Dunes, that could also be a good stop. Detroit has some good museums (DIA and Henry Ford) and there's some good restaurants too. Not much to see in the city itself, unless you just want to see "Detroit"

You can also cross into Canada through Port Huron. It might be quicker than the Ambassador bridge depending on traffic. They're the same distance to Toronto from Detroit.

An obvious stop too is Niagara Falls on your way to NYC

thanks, good tips

I'd spend most of the time in Wisconsin, the UP and the Carolinas and Tennesee. Great Lakes and Midwest cities are shit but the countryside can be really nice.

Nashville might be a good stop between Dallas and Chicago

skip dallas. there is nothing here.

thanks

not sure we will go to dallas, but anywhere somewhere in the Texas. Friend wants to see the death row prison in Texas

its just a prison. nothing special. If you insist on coming to texas go to palo duro or go down to houston and see the last WW1 battleship in the world or the Lexington in Corpus Christi.

Can't go wrong in Texas- if you go to Dallas, definitely visit Ft. Worth instead and check out the Stockyards/historic district. Texas Motor Speedway if you are a car enthusiast, Cowboys Stadium if sports are your thing. Dallas has a lot of good restaurants, but aside from the Kennedy museum and some music venues, there's not as much to do as in Ft. Worth.

Palo Duro Canyon is pretty awesome as a scenic drive, if you wanna go far west, check out the Ft. Davis area and Big Bend Country.

Keep an eye on the Kennedy space center rocket launch schedule around your arrival date, go to playa Linda beach to watch it (or just go anyway because it has a chill nude beach)

Like user said, you've picked the biggest shithole city's possible.
If your goal is to get carjacked, you did a great job planning.

>DC - Miami
Because you'll be driving up between the cities, pay attention to the big names in manufacturing as they have factory tours. See if you can book a factory tour at their websites. For example Boeing in the Carolinas is a possibility for you?

>Chicago - Detroit
Both cities have bright spots as long as you stay out of the blighted areas and remain alert even in the good areas. That's because the chicago basketball americans are actually pretty good at targeting their prey.

Hill country in Texas is great but Austin is growing, but your probably not going down there.

Got a similar trip planned - Florida east coast all the way to Monterey for car week...

All US highways...no interstates, except those I can’t avoid.

It’s planned so there’s no more than 5 hours of driving between stops. That way, I’m not in a hurry, can stop and smell the roses...

US highways let you really EXPERIENCE the drive...really see America.

Oh and Austin is your lone liberal city in a sea of red and Home to UT so just tell chicks your swedish and they'll want your D, maybe. if that interests you.

Make sure to visit the museum's in DC and Philadelphia. Charleston SC is nice. North Carolina has lots of nice outdoors locations as does Virginia. Harper's Ferry is at the point where WV, VA and MD meet and it's a nice little town with lots of good natural areas around. Visit the caves in Virginia, there are some secular caverns there. Good parks too. Baltimore has a nice aquarium and zoo just don't venture outside the tourist areas because there's a lot of driving hang violence. Burlington VT is a neat little town and Vermont is absolutely gorgeous in spring, summer, and especially fall and there's good skiing in winter. Check out the Everglades and blowing rocks nature conservancy while in Florida. Get to the latter at high tide to see the water shoot up into the sky. Check out New Orleans LA and Jean Laffite park. Good Cajun food and jazz and gators armadillos and snakes.

thanks, lots of good suggestions i marked up on the map

a launch is definatley something i would like to see. Also keeping an eye open for Trump rallyes / gatherings if one happens to be nearby (not a trump guy ofc, just for lols)

point is to have them as a way points and check cool stuff in between. Thing is that large cities have coolest museums etc. so it's also important to visit 'em

would it really be possible to get a factory tour at boeing? wouldnt imagine that could be possible for tourist. I'm mechanical engineer specialized in structural design and strength analysis and highly interested in planes, as is my autistic about planes (tho hes lawyer)

honestly get a rogue again

those pickups have the shittiest fuel economy and you'll stop to pay for gas and end up paying $100 a stop

Please go to /trv/ with your blog

What's bad about that?

Or if you got some cash get a decent 90's model from Craigslist lol
