Back when I had my learner's permit, my parents let me drive about 10 times. All of these consisted of the same thing:

>mom in car
>brake too fast or make a turn at over 5 mph
>grabs handle and center console and curses and says "jesus" under her breath
>really encouraging
>puts the AC down to the coldest because she's more pigfat than her sentra
>my hands are frozen
>open window
>"close the window, it's hot out!!!"
>refuse to close window
>"if you're not gonna close the window, you can pull over and let me drive!"
>because the passenger's comfort is more important
>she is reluctant to let me drive for the rest of the year with the permit

OR

>ask dad to drive somewhere with him as the passenger
>"y-y-y-you can't... the roads are wet and it's getting dark!"
>I've driven in the rain and in the dark before, so I ask him what the big deal is
>"no means no. I'm scared. I'm the adult and you're the child. Listen to me."
>eventually I get to drive with him as the passenger
>make a turn at 10 mph and begin accelerating to 35 mph
>he pulls the parking brake
>a car behind me brakes hard and swerves around me
>"YOU WERE TURNING TOO FAST AND YOU ALMOST GOT US KILLED BY THAT GUY BEHIND US"
>apologize to avoid further argument and continue driving
>the entire time he's got a knee up on the dash, grabbing the handles and console for dear life
>he freaks out whenever we approach a turn and always says "slow down"
>yells at me for not using a turn signal, when I haven't seen him use one for 2 years
>a couple months pass and his car gets totaled

I hated having them as passengers for the few times they'd let me drive. They only discouraged me from driving. Eventually, I just decided to drive my gf's MR2 illegally until I could get my license. Was a good boy, never got pulled over, never got in trouble.
