When you say rich, i imagine young kids with excessive mommy & daddy money. Rolling around in 150k+ cars, 500 dollar shoes while being early 20's. Or douchebag celebrities that do the whole "look at me" lifestyle.
Wealthy usually refers to an older demographic who got their money wisely and don't have to, or don't want to, show it off. A lot of wealthy people are frugal.
