I don't know how it is on console but on PC pvp isn't unplayable.
It's still dominated by a few select guns of course, but you still have your chances even if you don't use the meta, ultimately it'll be your aim that will decide who win.
The biggest issue is being a team of rando being put up against a premade of sweaty autists, but that's an issue far from unique to this game.

I thought getting kills with Riskrunner would active the Crown of Tempest's perk. It doesn't, but it would've been cool to have endless grenades and melee with it
