3 phantoms make the boss considerably more tanky and I personally think it makes the game feel more like an RPG, especially if you have people playing different builds. That being said, the host will still get blasted in this fight if he doesn't know how to dodge. But again, this is DS3 so theres not much of a challenge anyway.
