Making a Night Elf Druid. Two questions:

1. How competitive is feral DPS in 5-mans from levels 1-59? I know it's shit at 60.
2. Planning on rolling male since male Druids are canon, but I hate how they look and their animations. Am I going to regret not just rolling female?

5 mans are not competitive really. Everyone is in shit gear and as long as you know the dungeon mechanics and have been kind of paying slight attention to how your class works as you've been leveling, you won't have a problem.
Also go whatever you want, you will be playing your char for hundreds of hours, you better fucking love it or you're going to have some real bad buyer's remorse

As a percentage, I'd give Nostalrius a 65%. And that's generous.
Class abilities / mechanics are the heart of an MMORPG, and Nostalrius launched with the following as bugged (and mostly never fixed)...
stealth mechanics (no 4 step check like retail), windfury totem, windfury weapon, grace of air totem, sentry totem, warrior and bear rage formulas for incoming damage, threat from warrior Battle Shout, druid faerie fire stacking, druid roots for multiple targets, druid thorn buff causing eternal taunt and kiting, troll priest shadowguard processing any effects correctly, forsaken touch of weakness processing effects correctly, rogue slice and dice haste % correctly stacking with bladefury / troll berserking...

human perception racial for stealth detection was fucked, warrior charge did send people under the earth repeatedly in caverns, ditto for mage blink, hunter pet pathing was complete ass, hunter's mark on a target displayed on friendly and enemy minimap radar (completely bugged and fucking them for pvp warning of enemies), and too many paladin spell bugs involving formulas and spellpower interaction to list, but consecreation is the big one at the top of the list.

Also. Server launched with eternally spawning triggered quest mobs, free respawning of instances with the reset bug, completely bugged pickpocket junkboxes from endgame instances, and a horribly bugged player movement anticipation calculations where everyone with a ping of 180+ moved with that jerky pause-lurch motion.

Feral DPS in equal gear, level, and skill vs a rogue is substantially lower. Pretend you are 2 levels lower than the rogue and that's about where you are. At 42 when a rogue has fleshed out talent choices taken plus the SM blue sword and the RFD blue sword both from quests, the character skyrockets ahead of feral druids and doesn't look back.

Roll female if you aren't okay with the male elf cast animations. It will bug the shit out of you later.

Nah they didn't, they didn't even come close. Farming consumes is part of maximizing your damage, but it's not even close to all of it. People were fucking stupid back then, we all were. You can literally look at screen shots of nihilium or death and taxes and see they could have done much much more.

I was in a server first guild in tbc where the average raider was already more knowledgeable and the individual player in a raid had to be better to down the content
