Do you think a more streamlined and accessible Dwarf Fortress styled adventure mode would have potential?

What I mean is; the game would have graphics that are better then ASCII, and actually have quests and objectives. But it'd be tile and turn based, and could have the limb/bodypart targeting system of Dwarf Fortress's combat.

Is it a good idea to use ScriptableObjects in unity for weapon pickups? Say if I'm making a shmup and I want an oncoming pickup to overwrite the currently held weapon, I have the pickup reference a particular weapon SO that contains the functionailty for the fun stuff like the firing pattern and then when the player collides with the pickup it sets myEquippedWeaponSO to the pickupInstance.weaponSO or similar? Then when the player wants to shoot it just calls myEquippedWeaponSO.Shoot(this) so that the script knows where to shoot from in the world.

There's two reasons I believe this was posted. Either it's a stupidly obvious statement as what Blow stated is the obvious purpose of game engines, or it's an incorrect statement as every game engine has issues of its own and no engine can solve "all your techical problems". Which is it?

OP of this here. Anyone got ideas for new obstacles for the game? Right now there are rocks, which are 90% of what you'll see, then there are lily pads which are used for jumping, fish which are basically just rocks but they move around and there are coins and powerups which are spawned amongst the obstacles.

you know I think that just maybe hear me out anons just possibly I know this is a far fetched idea but it could indeed be that he's being fucking sarcastic.

Perhaps some things that affect the movement of the dingy e.g whitewater that propels you forward, reeds that slow you down.

I've been thinking about adding reeds and actually the idea of them affecting the speed sounds intriguing.

About whitewater, would it look too corny if there was just an animated texture or something on top of the flat water surface? Thanks for these ideas!

I can't really speak from experience but you'd probably get away with animated textures. Maybe throw in a few particles for rolling surface foam that get turned off at low settings.

pubg just had a patch to fix bugs that broke the game and added a million different far worse bugs in their place
they changed the interiors of buildings so people can't get stuck and now those buildings have floors with unbaked lighting so it looks like you're standing in broad daylight despite being in a windowless room in an apartment and holes in the ceiling where you can see the sky and now you can't even play the game at all because you load into a pitch black map and you can see the map off in the distance but can't move or even exit out
it's a complete dumpster fire

I want to use Unity for a game where timing and precision is extremely important and has to be exactly the same on every machine (for example a shmup or a fighting game).
Should I just throw all the game-critical code (movement, creation and destruction of bullets/hitboxes/etc, changing states) into FixedUpdate and collision events while keeping all the input and graphics stuff (animation, movement of objects that don't affect gameplay, hud) in Update?
