i don't disagree, but when people are first picking 1st/2nd/3rd picking lycan, brood and tinker and you at the end of the draft have one 1.5 sec disable across your team it becomes a problem, or when it's 50 minutes in against a cc/heavy magic damage lineup and none of your cores have bkbs, or when your safelane carry goes phase boots into mkb because the enemy has a pa.
people pick bad heroes and build bad items, then lose by default because they're scared of leaving the base.
i went from 2k to 4.7k peak, having the pleasure of playing with people as high as 5.5k and the difference in picks and builds are night and day, so i don't think it's fair to say there's too much focus on picks when the truth is that can be easy as fuck when you have the superior draft.

you start with plenty of regen, then value early items into what's situationally correct based on the enemy lineup

This usually works for me. Once you know the game is over make it seem like someone else on your team fucked you guys over.

This unironically happened to me too two days ago, pos 4 and 5 picked and suddenly rubick picked saying he doesnt know how to mid. And in the end he was forced into mid anyway losing it...anyway
