>CA confirmed they are shitting out more garbage for r2 on one hand I want attila to get support (read: guard mode), but on the other hand I'm glad it isn't getting a "Trannies of the Mediterranean" DLC
Nicholas White
All these ranged units being added in will shift the meta.
>this poster has not played ME since 2017 How is the chaos invasion? If I'm playing Kangz will stack after stack of beyond my comprehension still teleport into kangland from out of the Sahara and off the Atlantic coast of Africa? If so, roughly.whem does this happen?
If it's still as it was back when I last played I don't think I'll bother
Btw what's the next dlc for Warhams? Is it soon? I find it a bit odd there doesn't seem to be any news.
Oliver Anderson
it'd be cool if they made them hero / large unit snipers that do high damage at long range but have a low (30 or so) unit size. they already have ranged units for every other occasion. I wonder how they'll implement ratling gunners.
Benjamin Campbell
I'm hoping they're basically unit of handgunners with no range and a tiny unit count. So all the dakka of a unit of handgunners concentrated from 1/8 the models. oh and occasionally some explode.
# I haven't been able to play Skaven because they just don't feel complete with these units missing.
# Not him but I just pretend demis don't exist at all and use Reiksguard and their flaming friends all the way through the game
Lincoln Peterson
Jezzails won't shift the ratto's meta too bad, considering their strength has always been in their artillery. Now, they have ranged artillery that is focused on infantry-sized single entity units. No doubt they will be uber expensive, low unit count, and can't handle a melee fight against a wet noodle.
Rattling-Gunners to me feel like they will be the replacement for the Flamethrower unit but with armor-piercing damage, higher reload rate, more ammo, and just as much armor as the rest of the weapons teams.
Evan Nelson
>mfw CA finally gives us a new soymanni game in april
I must have been away from /twg/ for that fifteen minute period. Much as no one appears to care about Throne of Games or whatever it's called
Tyler Collins
So maybe handgunners on the flanks and outriders in the middle? What about the grenade outriders? Should I drop my ranged infantry units from 5 to 4 and add a rocket or cannon? Should I replace my mortars?
Yeah, the reiksguard were pretty impressive when I was killing the vampires. A reiksguard charge doesn't deal the consistent damage of the handgunners, but it probably knocked their morale bar down by 40%.
>chaos invasion got nerfed, not nearly as crazy as launch mortal empires. >warhams DLC next DLC will be a lord pack like king & warlord, it's slated to arrive in may along with norsca for ME. yeah I imagine they'll be the anti-armor counterpart of warpfire throwers with maybe just a bit more range than them.
Ratling guns and jezzails will change Skaven meta. Sisters of Averlorn and Shadow Warriors will give the High Elves much better shooting options. Same with Dark Elves receiving Medusa and Doomfire. Even Lizardmen get the Salamanders and Razordons.
David Adams
Thank you. As you seem nice and willing to answer questions intelligently. I take it there is no indication as to what those LL are? Not even a "lolupvote narwhalbacon does not exist meme"? Also how are the kangz? I've decided to buy the DLC now

they haven't said who the lords are yet but if one of them isnt ikit claw with muh skaven weapon teams I will flip. >kangz pretty good and fun, got all the important units. if you're a TK fan I can't think of any reason why you'd be unhappy with the faction.
Still sounds way too big for a jezzail unit - you used to bring them in incredibly small units - 10-12 sounds more than reasonable, if that.
Should be specialist monster / flying shooters.
Leo Ortiz
Hey a reasonable reply. I never said there weren't options from the system but it's no more options than in previous titles so it doesn't add agency. Sure you always have the base decisions that have been present in sieging; however, the notion that it improved the agency is wrong because it just shifted the parameters.
Rome 2 was a highly defensive oriented game so the burden was on attackers in the form of heavier attrition and more difficult sieges, that script is simply flipped in Attila and with the escalation being automatic, I have no control over the destruction as opposed to if I assaulted the city with siege weapons manually after an extended siege in Rome 2.
So for these examples lets assume I have besieged a town for a couple turns and for whatever multitude of reasons I can't afford to wait it out. Say I want to starve out a town but deal as little damage to its buildings and garrison as possible so I don't have to repair it or take a big population hit; can't do that in Attila. Damage to settlement is hardcoded. No decision there. Say I wanted to target specific buildings with damage so that if the enemy retakes it they have to rebuild but they were buildings I was going to convert anyway so not that big of a setback for me. I can't do that. Damage is already predetermined and hardcoded. Say I wanted to target mainly their garrison with the artillery rather than the buildings so I can assault the city more easily. Can't do that either. Say I want specific entry-points. I can do that in Attila but the siege escalation system doesn't aid that in any way. The only decision altered in Attila is the new parameters by which the player determines whether to siege or not. The rest: siege equipment construction, hold out turns, and reinforcing armies are all from past games.
In Rome 2, if I wanted to I could do all the things mentioned after encircling a town for several turns and doing a manual siege. It'd take for fucking ever but I could...
Luis Cooper
Now how could they improve this. Depends how involved they want to get. You could do something like a bombard option while besieging that gives you autoresolve-esque options: target defenses, target garrison, target buildings, general bombardment. Alternatively you could choose not to bombard.
If CA wanted to go deeper you could have the bombard options for buildings and garrison give you the ability to target certain units/buildings and allow the player the choice to focus more on raw damage or start fires (with their morale and wipespread damage effects).
If CA wanted to go even deeper they could supply all that and an option to do a manual bombardment which allows you to take the field and do all this manually in case you want to try to push into the city for some skirmishing fights and ending the fight does not cause a defeat that autoresolves losses onto your units.
All of these add agency and decisions without having to spend 50+ minutes on a siege emptying your artillery's ammo. Automatic predetermined damage from encircling that you have no control over does not. Furthermore, it actually removes options since whatever bonus it adds you can get from manually initiating a siege with artillery anyway. You may say "but I can do damage without dragging around artillery" and you would be right, but then that's removing agency from you when you're deciding on the value of taking the extra turns to transport artillery to the settlement for bombardment.
Attila's siege escalation does a good job at streamlining what is the simplest, and occasionally the correct, solution to these scenarios but just as the new setup for auto trade agreements in ToB don't mistake that simplicity for the system giving you more options.

>may update for ME replaces the Greentide with the Vermintide
they gave warpfire throwers a unit size of 32, which I thought was high for that kind of unit as well.
Aiden Ross
In WH2 is there a way to preview raiding income like you can preview sacking income?
Carter Cox
You can see what they're going for with warpfire throwers - they're mass infantry spraying units.
Jezzails shouldn't be delivering that kinda spray unless they're made into something they're not supposed to be.
Pretty sure jezzail units used to be incredibly small on the tabletop too, 3-5 rings bells. Warpfire thrower units, not that you ever used them as units over attachments, used to be portrayed as larger if memory serves - though I don't have my 4th edition book at hand and I think GW stopped pretending WFT were anything other than unit attachments after that.
honestly I hope they do make them a tiny unit but powerful enough to bring down big guys and heroes. I said in one of my previous posts they already have every other avenue covered as far as ranged units go, all they need now is a sniper unit for tough targets.
Isaac Martin
I'd rather have an extreme range high alpha sniper team to deal with dragons and monsters than skaven PAVISE HANDGUNNERS
Connor Carter
MP has been garbage since Attila and CA has put next to no focus on it since the esports thing for Rome 2 didn't pan out.
Cooper Baker
Yup, should be specialised to be anti-large and anti-flying. Not sure how I feel about them being anti-character, it's fitting but feels like it's a dangerous route to go down considering how broken character sniping can be and skaven are already absurdly strong against characters as is.
Small unit of 5-10 seems fitting. Well, double that if you want to count the fuck holding the stick / shield.
David Martin

Shogun 2 motherfucker, easily the best historic.
Leo Brooks
ill download them both. I'd really thought rome 2 would be the obvious choice though
Dylan Green
Rome 2 has the best setting of all of them, but the actual mechanics and variety are less baked than fresh cake batter It's pretty dull when you end up fighting the same battle over and over again against recolors of culture groups
Andrew Moore
Rome 2 SHOULD have been the best of them but I duno if it was rushed or what but it was NOT good when I played it, admitedly that's been a while, god knows if it's been modded into a game by now.
Shogun 2 is just fucking great though - the factions are obviously super similar since it's purely in Japan, but fuck ME did they nail the atmosphere and the stuff that is there is solid, I've sank more time into that than any other TW and still go back to it every few months. Then you can get FOTS and suddenly it's a gunpowder game, it's just solid.

To fair, precision artilery didn’t really exist in those days, and siege that ended in a assault would become an orgy of violence and looting within the city, and even if generals tried to stop it, unless they were really respected and the troops disciplined and loyal, they would just laugh at his face and do it anyway. It also might have a balance factor, since siege weapons are rarer and heavier siege equipment is locked by tech.

This isn't a case of trying to write custom firmware for your router when you don't know how to get "hello world" to appear on a console. This is a videogame that's intended to be picked up and played by anyone who happens to buy it. Give them the game that will blow them away.
>hasn't aged well
This can either mean that you think that the other person is a pleb who cares more about a shiny coat of paint than a good car, or that the game plays like shit and is only your favorite due to nostalgia. If it's the former, casuals need to fuck off, and if it's the latter, then it was always mediocre. Good game design is eternal.
Apart from what I already mentioned above, the only thing that would cause me to give a different recommendation to a beginner in an entertainment series/medium is the knowledge that they haven't gone through the big shining core works that every potential fan ought to go through.
