This isn't a case of trying to write custom firmware for your router when you don't know how to get "hello world" to appear on a console. This is a videogame that's intended to be picked up and played by anyone who happens to buy it. Give them the game that will blow them away.

This can either mean that you think that the other person is a pleb who cares more about a shiny coat of paint than a good car, or that the game plays like shit and is only your favorite due to nostalgia. If it's the former, casuals need to fuck off, and if it's the latter, then it was always mediocre. Good game design is eternal.
Apart from what I already mentioned above, the only thing that would cause me to give a different recommendation to a beginner in an entertainment series/medium is the knowledge that they haven't gone through the big shining core works that every potential fan ought to go through.
