>England >ruled by Romans for hundreds of years >ruled by a bunch of Saxons from like 500-800 >ruled by a bunch of Norwegians from like 800-1000 >ruled by a bunch of French Norwegians from like 1066-1200 >ruled by a bunch of other French people from like 1200-1400 >ruled by a bunch of Welshmen from like 1450-1600 >ruled by a particularly pissed off Welshman during the 1650s >ruled by a bunch of inbred Germans and Austrians ever since
So has England ever actually been ruled by an English person or what?
The same can be said for basically every monarcuckery nation in Europe. The Kingdom of Greece was ruled by a Bavarian until the junta deposed him. And I'm pretty sure every royal family is Europe has a little bit of Hohenzollern or Hapsburg in them, those krauts splattered their seed all over the world.

The monarchy doesn't "rule" England, it only has the ceremonial powers that the British Parliament grants it.
Carter Ward
>the English monarch has always only had the neutered powers granted to them by the modern Parliament throughout all of English history
you're a special kind of retarded, aren't you?
Colton Sanders
what about the Celtics, who were the native Britons
Noah Wilson
I never said it was the case for all history, but plenty of Ameritrumps genuinely believe "England" is ruled by the queen.

>>ruled by a bunch of inbred Germans and Austrians ever since Seriously? We're not ruled by the monarch, the monarch is basically a totem that we ascribe all power to, in order to prevent the PM from having total power, anytime the PM want's to do something shady we can say it's a prerogative power, thereby casting light on the shady thing the PM is trying to do, because the queen probably does reserve that power, and a vote is going to be called in the commons.
We're effectively ruled by the government created by the queen, not the queen herself, this is an important distinction.

>doesn't "rule" Present tense. Don't get so worked up about stuff strangers post on a cartoon image board.....

>ruled by the government created by the queen How about ruled by the government created by a democratically elected Parliament.
Brody Peterson
Parties have to go to the queen in order to form the government, Parliament itself can't form a government.
Kevin Howard
That's a rule that Parliament itself created. Parliament is supreme.
Julian Long
>Parliamentary sovereignty is a thing Thatcher, Blair, and May would all like to disagree, the whip system pushes the party with a significant majority (helped along by fptp) in the commons to control parliament, a controlled institution with supreme power effectively cedes it's power to it's controller.
